With Simon out, there's only one conservative in the race -- - McClintock's 1) the most experienced; 2) the most knowledgeable; 3) the one with the most well-articulated vision; 4) the one with Reagan-like CONVICTIONS (not convenient "opinions" adopted yesterday -- and subject to change tomorrow; 5) the one who's from the MIDDLE CLASS so he KNOWS that TAXES HURT -- he feels it in his bones, not through a focus group -- so we can trust him to keep his word.
NOTE: LYN NOFZIGER HAS JUST ENDORSED MCCLINTOCK!
And Arnold's spokesman this week hinted that Arnold will raise taxes. (Then he retracted - - but I'm believing what he said the first time)
But it's okay, you voted your "principles".
I don't know where you get that. Davis has 20% support, and he'll be lucky to get all of them to the polls.
I agree totally.
I am convinced that McClintock is the "honest politician" who is willing to pay that price.
If he solves the current problem he has succeeded beyond the worst progressive nightmares.
If he also freezes state spending, he's my hero, no matter what else happens.
No, I refuse to vote for a tax-raising liberal because of my POCKETBOOK. I'm not a head-in-the-sky ideologue who votes on abstract principles. I'm a middle class Joe who CAN'T AFFORD MORE TAXES !!!! I can't afford them EVEN IF THEY'RE PILED ON BY SOMEBODY WHO CALLS HIMSELF A "REPUBLICAN" (as tax-hiker Pete Wilson did). So Arnold's new taxes will hurt me just as much as Cruz's new taxes. I'm voting McClintock not for "principles" but for SELF PROTECTION!!!!
As I am sure you are aware, there are 2 ways to vote.
#1. Vote your conscience. This is the principled way our Founding Fathers intended us to vote. Then, you get office-holders who represent "principled" positions, even if you disagree with them.
#2. Vote the way you expect other people to vote. This is the Hugh Hewitt, "pragmatist" way of thinking. This way you get "pragmatic" office-holders.
Sir: You are, obviously, a "pragmatist". Before you vote, you stick your finger in the wind and calculate your vote in relation as to how you think everybody else will vote. That's your right.
But, it is not a principled position.
And remember the simple slogan:
You're right, it isn't. While Arnold may be lean left on social issues he's definitely a fiscal conservative. Alluding to that fact is anything but hypothetical.

Call it what you will. But to label him as such is to label any wealthy and/or well-known individual who exploits their celebrity or income to reach political office as the same.
Would you say that about Ronald Reagan? Sonny Bono? Fred Thompson? Yes, I suppose you would.

The fact that Arnold said exactly the opposite, and that this putz amended his statement, of course, means nothing. You'll believe what you want to believe.
My hunch is that there will be some tax increases, hopefully automatically limited in duration, or linked to some other external factor.
Maybe not. Maybe the next governor can balance the budget totally with spending cuts. But I doubt it. The population there has proven that it believes it's entitled to the proverbial free lunch.
Uh, it's not very likely that the guy who has 25% is going to step down and endorse the guy who has 5%. Even with Simon out of the race, if everyone who was supporting Simon voted for Tom he'd have only 9%.
I believe what politicians and their chief advisors way in unguarded moments -- not what they say as damage control when their candid comments cause s-- to hit the fan.
If you're the type who swallows the scripted comments of politicians more than their candid, unscripted spasms of candor, then you're somebody who'd better stay away from bridge salesmen!
Arnold has said that he will not raise taxes.
uh uh uh! Yes, he did. George Bush 41 got suckered into the no new taxes pledge and he got creamed. Not going there again.
McClintock is nowhere in the polls. He has no shot at being elected. A vote for him is a vote taken from Arnold.
Result? Bustamante wins, and then you for sure WILL get your tax increase, Mr Pocketbook!
No, Ronald Reagan. McClintock's views are most in tune with the Gipper's. It's Arnold who's the liberal spoiler in this race. He should get out and stop splitting the GOP and anti-Bustamante vote.
There was nothing Principled about voting for Perot. What did he stand for ? Nothing -- he had no coherent positions or convictions. Gee - doesn't that remind you of Arnold?
McClintock, otoh, is the only bona fide Reaganite running, and he's a star when it comes to experience, articulateness, and knowledge of how to shrink the deficit without shrinking taxpayers' wallets!
