Textron Marine & Land Systems Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) XM1117

Non-drivin' MP's owe Hadji a case of O'Doul's.

My first impression is that while that vehicle looks formidible, a wheeled combat vehicle should really have at least 6 wheels, preferably 8 wheels.

Who makes that thing, and who is buying it?

Yes indeed, at least a case. My M88 and M578 crews charged a case for each tow. During REFORGER 1984 we had quite a party after the field exercise was finished and we could legally drink.

saquin - Great Post!

Cannoneer - thanks for the ping. It said the trannie "was blown" but all it needed was some oil? Maybe the oil leaked out while it was on it side?

When I was in the Middle East... many times we had encounters such as this and every one was better than the last. The people over there have good and bad just as we do here in the CONUS. I have friends there in Qatar, Oman, UAE and Kuwait that I still stay in contact with.

Call it a modern day unintentional version of the old Hearts and Minds program......That light armor looks like an old V100/V150 Cadillac Gage Commando ????

Stay Safe and thanks Cannoneer for the ping !

Yep, that was usually the standard fee from the M-88 crew...

I had thought these things were only for airfield security and crowd control.

regards,

I saw a really interesting program last night on TechTV about that if the Army continues down the wheeled vehicle route, they have very interesting drivetrain technologies coming on-line. On a test-bed LAV-type vehicle, they've replaced the transmission with electric motors in each wheel powered by deisel-electric generator. The unit saved several thousand pounds of weight in removing powertrain and the individually powered wheels now have a greater of motion than when connected to an axel / transmission. With shrinking gas turbine technology, it's entirely feasible that all the electrical power and propulsion needs could be supplied by a turbine about the size of a coffee can using just about any flamable gas or liquid.

If this is the route taken, one can only hope that the replace the weight savings with armor because I cannot see these machines running "dodge-em" speed in urban areas.
