Conservatives yesterday indicated more support for Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid to become governor of California.

But they still stood ready to jump to one of two other major Republican candidates if the "Terminator" star stumbles badly in the campaign to replace Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

Better to have 1/2 a loaf than get the Cruz shaft. Wake up and think LOGICALLY.

McClintock can't win.

Bustamante or Schwarzenegger will win--so why are the McClintock supporters spending all their effort insulting Schwarzenegger?

OK. Don't listen to me. Read this -- the Democrats don't see that Arnold is the same as Bustamante, by a long shot. WASHINGTON TODAY: National parties flummoxed by California recall fervor

The stakes are enormous. California's governor controls the political levers of a state with 55 electoral votes -- nearly one-fifth of the total needed to win the 2004 presidential election.

Unless the election is somehow delayed, "Bustamante is going to be governor," Strother said.

It could turn out to be a disaster for Republicans," said Rick Davis, a GOP consultant from Washington who is not a White House ally. "We could wake up the day after the recall and Bustamante will be governor and immediately become a national Hispanic figure."

But now some Bush associates are warming to Schwarzenegger after his promise to cut spending and help businesses bring jobs to the state.

>>>Why are you so concerned with California politics when you live in Colorado? Geez, you have no idea of THEIR political situation.

Whether its California politics, Colorado politics or New York politics, I'm a concerned conservative and a concerned American. You don't like that, tough s**t! It's a free country. I know exactly what the political situation is in California. And electing a liberal RINO like Arnold Schwarzenegger, won't solve the problems.

>>>Yes, we all Loved Reagan, and Arnold is another Hollywood Reagan type.

That's part of the problem with folks like you. Arnold isn't another Reagan and never will be. Read Rush's essay in yesterdays Wall Street Journal. In fact, here's the link.

Read it and learn something about Ronald Reagan and conservative politics.

Bustamonte is a liberal. Arnold is a liberal too. WTF is the difference?

Intellectually dishonest... and a Reagan Man should know that. Arnold has been campaigning and fundraising for Republicans before FR was even a twinkle in Jim Robinson's eye. And Arnold was promoting conservative economics as early as 1990. He gave the introduction to one of Milton Friedman's educational videos... Ronald Reagan gave the introduction to another video of Friedman's in the same series.

>>>Arnold is a businessman who can turn Californi around.

Your opinion and nothing more.

>>>Given the demographics and the reality of CA, supporting McClintock is the same as supporting Bustamante. FACT.

Since Arnold is a liberal, voting for the conservative McClintock, is the right decision to make.

And the fact is, Arnold is a liberal.

Talking about Reagan:

Ronald Reagan on the importance of political compromise(in his own words)
An American Life (his autobiography) | 8/7/03 | Ronald Reagan

"When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it.

"Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything.

"I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.'

"If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.

You're UNREALISTIC in your illogical illogic.

HOw in the hell you going to get McClintock elected? How much money have you given to McClintock? If McClintock was smart he'd get on the Arnold bandwagon and be his business advisor.

>>Shoot down the Reagan Man. He lives in Colorado. Geez

This has nothing to do with me living in the great state of Colorado. But at least we Coloradan's elect conservative Republican's like Governor Bill Owens, Senator Wayne Allard and my Congressman, Joel Hefley. We don't elect liberal RINO's like Arnold and liberal Democrats like, The Cruzzer. LOL

Reagans was smart enough and knew that sometimes compromise is necessary. He was also frustrated with the "radical conservatives" as he called them, who tried to thwart his efforts, as the current "radical conservatives" are trying to sabotage Arnold.

(see my post 69 for the full Reagan quote)

YOu don't understand California politics real well or you would be supporting Arnold. If Arnold is elected, you have then gotten many moderate Democrats to vote Republican again. The trend MUST be changed in order to eventually get the moderate Democrats to start voting Republican.

What is your methodology of getting Democrats to vote for McClintock or Simon??? We ALL agree that we'd rather have a McClintock as Governor but THE MAJORITY OF CALIFORNIANS WILL NOT VOTE for Mcclintock.

So how do you propose making that HAPPEN Mr. Reagan????

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Actually,if these radical right (ALWAYS right in their opinion) folk knew the true Reagan fiscal record, he got us in more debt in this country than practically any president. BUT, his goal was to build the military (which he did but a democrat house and senate required "liberal program spending" ) so he COMPROMISED to get what he wanted.

That's the nature of politics, and it's the nature of ANY relationship, especially Marriage. If there is no compromise there's no survival of marriage.

I hate to tell you this, but that's not news to me. LOL

>>>But now some Bush associates are warming to Schwarzenegger after his promise to cut spending and help businesses bring jobs to the state.

Arnold has said, he wants to bring businesses back to California, so the tax revenues will incraese and there will be proper funding for the states social welfare programs. That's highminded liberalism. And Arnold's promises to cut spending are unspecific and he won't release what those cuts will be , until after the election. That's political nonsense.

IMO, the Radical Right is the same as the Radical Left. They are both at the ends of a bell curve... make a lot of noise, don't hear anything, use illogical means to stand their ground... both call it "principle" and both seldom WIN. They are political extremists and have lost their political hearing and reasoning abilities.

How does that jive with your repeated claims that Arnold is a fiscal liberal?

>>>Intellectually dishonest... and a Reagan Man should know that.

Your day dreaming.

This is what I know.

Not only is Arnold pro-abortion, pro-gay rights and pro gun control. After the impeachment proceedings against der schlickmeister, Schwarzenegger was going to leave the GOP, becasue he didn't like the way Republicans were treating Bill Clinton. That shows that Arnold condones the bad behavior of Clinton, that was purjury and lying to a grand jury.

That's what I know.
