SEAN HANNITY-JUST CALL HIM 'MR.CALIFORNIA' NOW
8.21.2003 | myself

ABC Radio networks recently told TALKERS magazine Sean Hannity is number one with 12+ on KBAC in LA. KFMB in San Diego has Mr. California in the #1 spot as well. However, in San Francisco's KSFO, Hannity is 25-54.

ABC Radio Networks' senior VP of programming, John McConnell said this about Sean: "This is a spectacular accomplishment in less than two years of syndication. Most talk personalities take years to create a loyal audience but Sean reached incredible milestones in a very short period of time."

On August 26th, WCBM in Baltimore brings talk live to the Maryland State Fair hosted by Tom Marr (local personality), Sean Hannity and Oliver North.

KSTP, Minneapolis-St.Paul removes Bob Davis from his late night talk show to mornings with Hannity taking over Davis' spot. Davis replaces John Wodele, Jesse Ventura's former aid.

WPHT, Philadelphia, is removing "Imus In The Morning" and replacing with Michael Smerconish. Hannity could be taking over Smerconish's PM spot.

Remember this month, Rush celebrates his fifteen anniversary in syndication. Rush reaches 14.5 million plus listeners weekly and approximately 600 affiliates. The LA Times wrote: If you compare talk radio to rock 'n' roll, Rush Limbaugh was Elvis Presley."

TALKERS magazine is the leading trade publication serving the talk radio industry in America. It has been dubbed "The Bible of Talk Radio" by Business Week Magazine launched during the Summer of 1990 by Michael Harrison, a radio broadcasting maverick and trade journalist who has been at the center of many of the exciting pop radio revolutions of the past 30-plus years.

Just a Heads Up on Hannity and Rush. TALKERS online is in part subscription, therefore, did not allow for cut 'n' paste; but does allow free access to what's happening with the 'shakers and movers' within the TALK radio industry.

However, in San Francisco's KSFO, Hannity is 25-54.

KSFO plays a taped version of Hannity's show from 4 to 7 pm, pacific time, in the time slot that Savage used to have. Apparently there was a huge contract dispute between Savage and KSFO, so savage is at KNEW now. I saw a billboard the other day - showed, from left to right, a faded image of a dour-looking Savage followed by faded and smiling images of Hannity, then moving to the right, the images of Hannity get clearer and more defined. The caption: Out with the old, In with the New.

I love Sean Hannity---but I never seem to be able to get through all 3 hrs of his show. Somewhere in the second hour, it begins to grate on my nerves.

Hannity IMO is no match for Colmes. I've heard more conservative cliches out of Hannity than anyone else involved in political media.

the whole business with Charlie Rangle making the statement of bombing women and children was ridiculous. How many shows did he get out of that one phrase. It should have been a 10 second debate on what Rangle said and the issue or whether and errant bomb take precidence over the greater good.

yeh, Hannity gets on my nerves after about 20 minutes. And that Martin Levin....please.

Well, if Rush had a national cable talk show when he got started, he would have exploded even faster too.

Rush paved the way, no doubt about it. Without Rush, we wouldn't have Hannity,Savage, Ingraham, Medved, Beck, etc...

But I stopped listening to Rush about 5 years ago. I couldn't take the ego any more. The golf games. The football soliloquies. Going in and on without saying much. He does have some of the best audio bites in the game, though. Great research. I prefer to just catch the best audio at the end of the day from his website.

I liked Sean a lot at first. Mainly, because he wasn't Rush. Very humble, no ego. But after a while, he started to grate on my nerves as well. He sems to get slaughtered in every "shootout" with an intelligent liberal. He's reduced to yelling and repeating, rather childishly, one or two sentences over and over.

For great logic and debate, nobody does it better than Michael Medved. He goes toe-to-toe with lefties every day, and he slices and dices them into small compact pieces. All without becoming uncivil or raising his voice.

And then there's Laura Ingraham. (sigh) Wonderful.

That can be said of the entire SRN (Salem Radio Network) lineup; Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, and Hugh Hewitt. Each host has had rather vigorous debates with those on the other side of the political aisle, notably Hewitt with his weekly segments with Joshua Micah Marshall, the Left-leaning 'Smart Guy', as well as the detestable Bob Moholland. Just to name a few. As for Hannity, he's a nice enough fellow, but he can indeed grate your nerves after while.

-Regards, T.

Would you translate what being "25-54" on San Francisco's KSFO means, please?
