"If that story was true, it shows LBJ could get violent, and he did hate the Kennedy's, but I'm still not totally convinced of this."

I'm not totally convinced, either.

But, as to whether LBJ was capable of doing it, I've absolutely no doubts. You damn right he was capable of doing it.

Why in the world would the author's sons have to do anything at all? They didn't write the book and aren't responsible for what some adult relative writes abour.

I remember a reporter asking Johnson before he passed on about the assassination, and he claimed that once the truth is known it will shock people, or words to that effect.

"I've never seen convincing evidence that leads me to believe that Oswald was incapable of making those shots. It's the only thing about the Kennedy "

I agree 100%. I also concluded that LBJ was the force behind the shooting. They are not mutually exclusive, you know.

And as to other comments that, as freepers, we should not allow conspiracy theories to sway our 'thinking', I submit that there was sooo much to support the theory at the time, people could easily have drawn that conclusion. BUT, few believed that a man (Johnson) could stoop to such misadventures.

Different time, different thinking/mindset!

After reading maybe half a dozen books on the assassination, my instincts, along with the existing evidence, have consistently told me that LBJ had foreknowledge of the event and was complicit in its execution.

BTW, I'm a fifth cousin to LBJ (FWIW).

I just thought it was fun spotting the references he placed in the movie, e.g. the eye being a logo for the Dallas Knights and the numbers on the jerseys.

hmph.

I'll go get my hat now. : )

It is truly amazing what goes on here. Inside the beltway is a fascinating place to be when the fan gets hit.

"Boris, I'm old enough to remember the Kennedy assassination. I was convinced right from the beginnning that LBJ was involved in it."

At the time of the assassination I was an electronics technician stationed on the Navy base at Keflavik. I did maintenance and repairs on radio equipment but had no access to the messages. Within hours of the event there were rumors floating around on base that Johnson was involved. Apparently some people who had top secret clearances were leaking some of the messages but I have no way of knowing what was actually coming through. I have never believed the Warren report since the first time I actually looked into it.

Let's not forget that the British Foreign Service sent an agent to seduce "isolationist" Senator Arthur Vandenberg and then blackmailed said Senator into supporting entry into the war.

You're leaving out the best part.

Oswald had contacted the Russians. They listened to what he had to say, decided he was a nut, and told him to beat it.

Oswald had contacted the Mafia. They listened to what he had to say, decided he was a nut, and told him to beat it.

After Oswald killed Kennedy, both the Mafia and the Russians panicked at the thought that they might be thought to be involved, so they did all kinds of things to obscure their connection with Oswald. This is what created all the plausible conspiracy theories.

But you have to remember where we are...Free Republic, where conspiracy theorists have found tons of company.

Agree ... I'm usually ready to believe the worst when it comes to democ"rat"s ... but this was in the era of "old" democrats ... when they still had a modicum of honor. The pre-Clinton era ...

"I have a bizarre and outlandish hypothesis: Oswald pulled the trigger and acted alone."

That really is a bizarre theory. The house select committee on assassinations concluded that there was at least one other shooter other than Oswald. Personally, I don't even believe Oswald fired a shot at JFK.

I remember the inside the beltway talk when the klintoons 1st came to town. It was that they have an open marriage. That turned out to be an understatement.

Yep, it's both. He might have pulled one trigger, but he sure didn't blow Kennedy's head of from the front, which any blind man can see if they watch the film.

Plausible conclusions. Did Jack Rubinstein/Ruby, former Chicago Mob associate, take out Oswald due to the embarassment he would cause by his testimony at the trial?

I have friends in the DC area. I asked what they talk about over coffee when the scandels hit. She said "The same things you talk about, but we know more."

LBJ stole his first senate election, became a multimillionaire on a max annual Senate salary of $35K and probably helped steal the presidential vote in Texas in 1960 from Nixon. That said, I don't think he would have been so brazen to have attempted this, but I will certainly read the book to find out what "evidence" this guy has.
