I'll repeat what I said the other day on my question thread ("Question for Californians . . . . : http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/966234/posts): I have a woman friend, a professional, pretty well-to-do, who is active in Republican politics in CA. She is much more of a Libertarian (pro-abort), but is deeply concerned about the illegal problem and is extremely conservative fiscally. Anyway, she said she is working on Arnold's campaign, and that she has known him for years. According to her, he is far more conservative than people think (especially on social issues, she said), and is quite solid on conservative economics.

Don't flame me, I'm just passing along what a somewhat influential person, who has worked in CA politics for years, thinks. According to her, neither McClintock or Simon have a hope in hell.

Mello-Roos is a method of getting around Proposition 13.

True, but the "special tax" allowed under Mello-Roos still needs to be passed by two thirds of the voters in that Mello-Roos district (county, city, etc.).

Although a detailed press statement was released on Sunday, Aug 17, 2003, the Schwarzenegger campaign had already expressed support for Prop 13 on Friday, Aug 15, 2003.

Schwarzenegger's campaign said Friday that the actor supports Proposition 13.

Before Bustamante entered the race, that was my prediction, that a Democrat would enter the race, that the Republicans and conservatives would split their votes and the Democrat would win.

It's a plurality win.

I won't flame you - I actually agree with you. Here in the north bay area we are beginning to look like a third world country (taco carts on Santa Rosa Ave., food trucks near the parks @ 10:pm) and Davis basically invited more to come with his driver's license and tuition schemes.

The candidate for me will be the one who takes on that issue without regard to being labeled a racisit. To prevent that all the candidate need do is pull a Perot - graphs, charts of what the illegals are costing us. Be specific - use the LA hospital as a prime example.

That was exactly what I thought he was brought in for---to stabilize CA's bond rating if Arnold wins.

Interesting, the first thing Alexander Hamilton recommended to George Washington was to improve the nation's credit. Not to cut taxes, not to control spending, but to ensure that when needed, the USA could get loans from the people or from foreigners. This is very shrewd on Arnold's part, and while I agree with most of McClintock's budget points, nevertheless he doesn't seem to get this really big picture about confidence in an economy.

Don't know if you heard this one from Gallagher, but he was concerned about terrorists and airlines after 9/11, and said he flew to our concert via DELTA, which stood for "Don't Even Let Them Aboard!"

All that you say is true about Arnold's background, but the press is fierce. You can contribute on commissions and help support other candidates, but standing up there alone and taking the heat is tough. Even seasoned politicians don't do as well as he did today.

Look folks, I too have reservations about Schwarzenegger's true conservative bonifides, so give it a rest. We have all read about them by now. We are all aware of them.

Schwarzenegger stands poised to crack this state wide open. If he can get in there and implement his plans, the Democrat controled Legislature is going to look like the impotent tax-raising whores they've been for decades.

Schwarzenegger is qualified like no other state politico today to clean house not only in the governor's office, but to take his agenda to the state's people via the media. When Arnold talks... (remember the old E.F. Hutton commercials) ...people listen.

I have mixed emotions about A.S. He on the one hand does stand for some things I don't, but I do believe he will usher in a new day for California, one that will see the governor's mansion, and the state house firmly in Republican hands. His fiscal conservancy will match that of Reagan's IMO.

Nothing the CTA does would surprise me..or the Democratic Party or the Socialist Party or the Communist Party to them the end justifies the means...and look at the Uions supportring Bustamante, well since they got a sweetheart pension plan and pay raises that doesn't surprise me either...but IMO the 90% after 30 year pension plan needs to be redone (recalled?)lol...it is a budget breaker...why no discuission from the media on that?

Okay, if ONLY a liberal can win in California, then...

THEN WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF RECALLING DAVIS??
Explain why is prudent to spend $70 million dollars to "recall" an unpopular liberal and replace him with a more popular but equally liberal one (Cruz or Bustamente) How exactly does this help the conservative cause? We're we told by Recall Proponents that the whole reason to have recall in the FIRST place was that "California voters will NOT replace Davis with someone who exposese the same FAILED liberal policies"??

What happened to that rallying cry, eh?

Theoretically, in fact, borrowing might not be a bad option. I personally always favor cutting government, but Alexander Hamilton's first move as Sec Treas was to set up a method whereby the US could borrow money cheaply and consistently. He also set up a mandatory repayment process, whereby the U.S. could not amass consecutive debt levels.

Anyway, in theory---and I don't know the actual bond interest rates, and, I bet, neither do you---it might be possible to literally restructure a portion of that debt away. Clinton did this in 1993, and we all blasted him for it, but he got away with it---the bond markets started to support him. Just raising it as a theoretical possibility, and it might explain why Buffet is there!
