I think the three major GOP candidates poll a total 40% in the recall, hardly a plea for sanity, but then again it is California home to the fruits and nuts. Count me amongst the pessimists along with my prediction that CA sees one massive exodus of its productive to the point that it needs Federal intervention to stave off total collapse.

None of this decay is surprising. The left's promises of Nirvana never measure up. But what does surprise me are the reactions of some conservatives who see California's problems as so severe that they can't be solved by the application of conservative principles. Their thinking has led them to support Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, to my knowledge, has yet to embrace any conservative positions, though he has embraced Warren Buffett. Hasta la vista, whatever,

I don't think there is a question as to whether a "true" conservative could fix the problems in CA .. they could and they would do a good job.

I think the question is whether a "true" conservative could get elected at this time with the political climate that CA is in now.

But only the voters in CA can answer that question

We conservatives didn't get where we are today with this kind of thinking and we can't lead in the future with this attitude.

No flames here. Rush is right on. But of course the new GOP isn't seeing things as President Reagan saw them. The new GOP operates under the same principles as their adversary. Conservatism has taken a huge, barely recognizable, back seat to the principle of "power at any cost", even if it means pandering to the wishy washy middle and co-opting leftist ideology.

But the "party BOTS" will be on you like stink on dew I would imaging before this thread passes on to where ever they pass on when all the same old stuff has been regurgitated a couple hundred times.

Thanks for posting Rush's excellent piece.

Rus is absolutely right.

We need real conservative leaders. Not those wimpy idiots that can fight their way out of a paper bag.

If the republicans start actually abiding by these principles I might start voting for them again.

The reason we have the largest Federal government in our history that runs up budgets somewhere in the trillions......is because we now vote NOT FOR someone......but to keep the other guy OUT. What end result do you expect?

And we need to keep in mind that A.S. doesn't just support abortion-on-demand because it is the law of the land....he appears to support abortions because he believes people have the right to kill off the least powerful (meaning the least important?) other people.
