I don't think there is a question as to whether a "true" conservative could fix the problems in CA .. they could and they would do a good job.
I think the question is whether a "true" conservative could get elected at this time with the political climate that CA is in now.
But only the voters in CA can answer that question
That is the the real issue. I hope the conservatves in California do as good a job defeating the democrat as they do at defeating "rinos" this time.

Yes. There is something puzzling about Rush's piece. You could see him as criticizing someone like Ann Coulter, who has said she thinks California a lost cause and perhaps it would be better if a Democrat twisted in the wind.
But Rush can't be serious about either McClintock or Simon winning the governership. So why criticize some conservatives who are just reconciling themselves to the fact that a conservative can't win right now? I'm sure Coulter and just about anyone else on the right thinks conservative principles are the right answer for California; they're just consoling themselves because they think a conservative Republican can't win.
It's fine to support conservative principles, even in CA. As far as the governor's race goes, though, we're stuck in the real world. We have to choose among available alternatives. Arnie, or defeat?
Man, I don't even live in California, and I don't like the choice. In fact, this discussion reminds me of the angst the Democrats go through-- oh so publicly-- all the time now. Bush lite, as they say, or a principled socialist who will lead us to defeat? If their situation bothers them even as much as this annoying governor's race in another state bothers me, I feel badly for them. Thank goodness it's them in that situation, and not us, when it comes to the presidency.
