A course called "How to be Gay: Male Homosexuality and Initiation," scheduled this fall, has reignited a culture war at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

A family-values lobbyist is leading public opposition to the self-proclaimed "uncompromising political militancy" of the professor who teaches "lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender."

And one of the reasons for starting a gay high school is these young people are so prone to suicide. Is that gay?

This can be summed in one word: Recruiting.

Getting the young who are confused or "confusable" to choose to be homo by thinking there is no choice. Just one homoexperice with the professor and then the left will label and destroy their lives.

To think, I am going to be moving into my dormroom at the University of Michigan in less than 10 days. I am going to have to put up with this leftist, anti-American, and anti-Christian crap for atleast the next 4 years.

As one who has been in that situation myself, you have my strongest sympathies! Hold firm to your conservative beliefs and don't let them intimidate you. I was in your shoes four years ago when I was choosing where to go and witnessed it again last week in conversations with a brother who just started his freshman year at a left wing school. I can give you the same warnings and advice I gave him.

First, it is an indisputable and inescapable fact that fringe radicalism runs rampant on modern college campuses. Many are sad shells of their former academic selves, having long since adopted entrenched and systematic forms of Jacobin indoctrination in place of the pursuit of knowledge. I did my undergrad at a university that, fortunately, was not among the worst and actually had a few conservative departments. But there were also lots of leftists pursuing off the wall leftist activities, classes, and programs. The worst element is also one that is common to most if not all modern colleges - the relentless adherence to and evangelization of a "diversity" religion. "Diversity" is almost always the name that they use to peddle the homosexual/reparations/mohammedanism/affirmative action/terrorism/environmentalist/tolerance crap that appears so frequently on campuses. This has worsened immeasurably and noticeably in the last few years alone. I applied to several universities during my senior year of high school and got freshman orientation packets from each. Some of the schedules had "diversity" lessons - included among many other campus basics - on them to be sure, but when I saw my brother's orientation schedule last week I was in shock at how much it has come to dominant freshman orientations. It has two lengthy classes on so-called "multi-cultural" training and consumes more space than probably any other topic in the orientation handbook he got. Each and every dorm now has its own "diversity officer" living on site on top of an official campuswide "office of diversity" in the adminstration building to fund and promote things like the homosexual activist program your school also has. Most schools now require or heavily emphasize some sort of "diversity" or "sensitivity" training seminar for incoming freshmen and portray them as harmless and beneficial experiences rather than the subversive propaganda sessions that they truly are.

Second, once on campus find yourself a conservative student group and get involved in it immediately. You should also get on the Young Americas Foundation mailing list - they're a conservative group that specializes in providing support material, books, and speakers to the conservative minority on the worst college campuses. Also figure out who and where the conservative professors are as soon as you can. There normally aren't many, but there is always a small handful - often holding out in an enclave of a single department or two. Ask the older students in your college republicans who they are, take their classes when possible, and introduce yourself to them. That should help you hold out for and survive the left wing freak show that is college.

Those clases exist its feminist studies classes.

How about a class on how marriage is good. Fathers and Mothers are the most likely system to raise normal healthy children. There is a right and wrong when it comes to sex. Making love is a beautiful expression of a married couple. But GASP! spend tax dollars on such hate mongering. What about polygamist cultures?

"The first thing I've done is STOP using this phoney name they've managed to get everyone to use in describing them ...
They've simply managed to get everyone to start referring to them as gay because they do hate to hear themselves accurately referred to as what they are ... HOMOSEXUALS.

I always clearly refer to them as such in public."

---

I agree and I do the same. I think more people should go back and call them by the CORRECT term. "Gay" used to be a nice word, until they hijacked it.

Mr. Halperin's class explores "the role that initiation plays in the formation of gay male identity."

===

And what do you think that means, if not recruitment?

"Try it, you'll like it" Uggghhh.

Despite my son's experience in that one class, he did have a generally pleasing experience at Michigan. He took a number of courses on the VietNam war, poli sci and history and did not have to contend with a lot of leftist bunk.

I was very concerned that he might be punished, grade-wise, for his conservative views, but that did not happen.

As for roommates - he selected the substance free section of Couzens hall (where will you be living?) and had a Navy ROTC guy and a regular Michigan good ole boy as roommates for years. No political problems there, either.

Re the required diversity class - don't take anything in black studies or womens' studies. You can't win, you'll wind up being the scapegoat for every wrong thing these people see in their lives. My son is part black and I still urged against the black studies - lots of blacks have issues with being 'black enough.' Not worth the drama. Take an Asian studies course and move on.

!!!GO BLUE!!!!

"lesbian and gay studies scholars" were leaders in lobbying universities and governments "to adopt and enforce anti-discrimination policies, to recognize same-sex couples, to oppose the U.S. military's anti-gay policy, to suspend professional activities in states that criminalize gay sex or limit access to abortion, and to intervene on behalf of human rights for lesbians, bisexuals and gay men at the local and national levels."

Anyone else see something that doesn't seem to fit? How is abortion a gay and/or lesbian issue? A gay couple CAN'T become pregnant and lesbians WON'T - unless intentionally - become pregnant. And BTW, there's no need to have a class. If you want to learn to be gay just watch 'Queer Eye for a Straight Guy' or whatever it's called on Bravo.
