Long hair does not make you a freak. No, but working around machinery with long loose hair is not that bright. Your hair should either be cut short or secured in some way to prevent it from getting caught in the machine. Same thing with baggy or oversize clothing.
Lots of people are hurt and killed every year because they don't follow simple safety precautions. Sad. It is a horrible way to die. Of course, I cant think of any nice ways to die.

Was it becaues of long hair, or stupidity? Why dont you hear of women being killed on a daily basis because of their long hair?

"

No it doesn't.
You must admit it may be hazardous to ones health though.

Working around machinery requires your full attention at all times. Long hair, loose clothing and jewelry are liable to get caught into machinery.
I saw the results of a guy who wasn't paying attention while working with a pneumatic drill. His coveralls were caught in the machine and essentially applied a "tourniquet" to his arm.
A coworker shut the drill off and they cut away his coveralls to free him. His arm was black & blue for for months afterward.

ON A COLD DAY IN HELL SHOULD TOM WITHDRAW.
He will quit. I am sure of it. Tom is a good man. But he should move to a state where he can win.

Don't forget large rings and other jewelery!

I don't know about a daily basis, but there are some pretty gruesome stories out there.
One in particular is a woman doing one of those product demos in the market. It was a high powered blender that she caught her hair in. It completely scalped her!

Even the Geeks who bite heads off rats? Hey, I bite the heads off RATs all the time---some of them even pretend to be conservatives...LOL..
But seriously, the freak shows were a part of show business history, no doubt. Back when I was doing it, there were still some around. Not so much anymore. But you have to say, as strange as some of that stuff was, the marks ate it up.
The advent of TV really did it in. After all, some geek biting a rat's head off, or a fat lady, or a strong man, or Siamese twns, or whatever, can hardly compare to the freaks Hollyweird can line up on any given night of the week. And the girlie shows were pretty tame compared to what is available out there today in other places and in other formats.
By the way, I said that some of the best people I ever have known were carnies. But the converse is true; some of the worst people I've known were carnies as well. ;-)
I do have a few stories to tell.
Course, now I live in DC, and do politics. Talk about a freak show...

Don't forget large rings and other jewelery! Oh I don't forget. And after the little incident we had on the floor where the lady got her pendent caught neither does anyone else.
Best safety demonstration we ever had. We should have given her a bonus.
Nothing like seeing someone almost go head first into a mixer to make you reconsider not following "the stupid rules".

If you are doing politics in Washington, D.C. then your carnie experience is standing you in good stead. I think carnival experience is probably better training than mere civics.
I live in the Annapolis area and don't want to get any closer on a regular basis to D.C.

I just heard the prices in Oak Harbor itself are 25% less than Anacortes or Mt. Vernon... My lucky daughter and her husband just bought there- in an old, stable neighborhood, amidst huge oak trees, looking over, yes, Oak Harbor.
