Terri (Schiavo) Hospitalized
The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation

Terri was admitted to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida on Wednesday, August 13th. Hospice did not notify Terri's family of this and they did not find out until almost 24 hours later of their daughter's whereabouts. Michael Schiavo has given instructions not to discuss Terri's condition with her family. We will update this as soon as we know more.
Glenn Beck brought this up during his radio broadcast this morning.

What's the precedent with regard to undocumented living wills? Do courts normally allow for second hand statements to be counted as valid?
Do you have any compassion for her parents? This is their daughter after all.
How do you expect the husband to come across considering the facts - he is living a new life with a new family. He has refused all but the slightest of care for Terri. You have to admit he doesn't exactly ooze "caring husband."
The money that was awarded was to go for her TREATMENT - doesn't that say something right there? Someone obviously expected she would need some, and yet she's in a hospice facility. And where is that money?
What about the doctors that say she could improve with treatment? What about that video anyway - you say it was edited down, no doubt, of course the parents want to portray her in the best light possible. But if she is THAT responsive SOME of the time (and come on, she is definitely reactionary in the video clips), how responsive is she the rest of the time? Sleeping doesn't count.
Just how exactly is a "persistent vegetative state" defined anyway? Can someone in such a state be so visibly ALIVE and still be considered vegetative, according to the medical definition? I really don't know, do you? I do know that I have read statements from people who work with vegetative patients who say that Terri is NOT in such a state.
With those things in mind - the drs who say she could improve with treatment, the experts who say she is not vegetative - do you think everyone has an agenda or has been paid off by her parents?
And about that starvation - do you think Jesus (since you called yourself a pro-life conservative Christian) would think it was a GOOD thing to slowly starve her to death?
Thanks in advance for any response.

The newbie thunders in with name-calling, "rule of law", and 100% pro-life Christian affirmations in the name of death for Teri Schiavo. Orders me to research the situation, while claiming to have never heard of George Felos.
So many incongruities---I smell a rat.

But make damn sure you understand what you are giving up.I've looked at it from all angles & am comfortable with my (revokable) decision.
He wants to go to the BunnyRanch. Sorry son not gonna happen.
Perhaps the Make A Wish Foundation could be of assistance in granting his request.

Boy that would be a first. lol
He is convinced that if he wins that 25,000 Keno ticket he can hire a few male nurses to take him there.
So far he has only hit a 1,750 ticket. One number away from the big one and that caused respirtory distress from the excitement. Kids!
He had a wish granted by the foundation and his wish was to meet with Dr. Alan Keyes.
Very awesome day in our family history.

Terri isn't "being kept alive by artificial means."
She's simply being fed- for now.
And she's being therapy of every kind which might improve her condition.
Michael Schiavo is a POS.

yep--it's amazing to me that more time, energy and money is spent trying to kill her than to at least attempt therapy for a time.

I'm not going to debate whether her mode of feeding is natural or artificial. With feelings running as high as they are on this issue, that would be a pointless exercise of dubious value.
My original comment was meant only to encourage others to consider committing their wishes to record, so that, if they ever do end up in a situation similar to Ms. Shiavo, their loved ones will not need to suffer as have those of this young woman.

I agree. Monday would not be to soon because ya never know.
If you do not or cannot afford an atty. get the documents notarized at any bank for 10bucks.
If you change your mind it can always be updated.
Get an adv directive and file it at the local hosp. and critical care hosp. and carry one in the car along with your registration.
To: oceanperch; Freebird Forever
I am all in favor of a living will, aka advanced medical directive too. One minor detail omitted thus far...
Discuss your intentions with family and close circle of friends, as well as get it in writing. Don't think it is anything to be embarrassed by, or ashamed of, or morbid. If doubts or questions about your feelings arise during your discussion with close family and friends, best it comes out when you are able to argue your stand, than when you can't.
To: ClaudeCriquelion
Really, I'm aghast. Just how mindless do you have to be to see that if she wasn't in a persistent vegetative state, her parents wouldn't have to edit 5 hours of video down to 20 seconds to make it look like she isn't. What? We are supposed to take this on your say so? It seems clear to me from the videos that she brightens when in the company of her mother... What video editing technology brings this magic to Terri's countenance?

Yes. And be honest about who if anyone is going to be your careprovider.
If your spouse is not comfortable with the job then name somebody who is.
It doesn't have to be a judgemental call if your spouse feels they couldn't do it. The in sickness and health vow may not be a reality for some.
You are right thou it needs to be discussed open and honestly with out judging others.

In Post 50, you said ...
There, I've said my peace. Back to lurkdom.
But, in Post 54 and subsequent posts, you said ...
Thanks for your response...
So you are a liar as well as a troll. Disgusting.

Yes, you all are doing a great job for Terri.

death; do not stand back and let them die.

cause of all who are appointed to die.

What bothers me most are the subtle and not so subtle attempts at demonizing her husband. In reality, no one on this board - myself included - knows enough about him to be making those sorts of judgements. If I were him in this situation I would be *sorely* tempted to respond to her parents with a scorched earth strategy as well. Take my word for it the husband is only interested in the money. He is as callous as they get. Maybe someone should starve you to death so yhat you would get an idea as to what this is all about.
To: oceanperch
How dare you. If I told my husband I wanted not to be kept alive through extraordinary means, and other people in my family tried to do that, I would expect him to do JUST what this husband is doing. Nobody has been able to prove to me that he will gain financially. I will believe what I've heard him say that this was her wish and his promise to her.
