I'm sorry folks. All I did was plug in my flux capacitor. I didn't mean for this to happen.

If these outages continue into the evening, I fear terrorists may take advantage of the situation.

Fox, via a national power company organization: Power grid affected goes as far west as Saskatchewan and Oklahoma, and as far south as Florida. So anything in that zone is conceivably in danger, but most of the rest of the country has successfully pulled themselves off the grid to protect themselves.

Don't give up hope; some guy on CNN is saying it may have started in Canada! He's with NYC Emergency Management.

Major power outage hits New York, other large cities
Thursday, August 14th
|
It was chaos in the streets of New York. |
Major power outage simultaneously struck several large cities in the United States and Canada late Thursday afternoon.
Cities affected include New York; Boston, Massachusetts; Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Toronto, Ontario; and Ottawa, Ontario. The power outage occurred shortly after 4 p.m.
Much of Midtown Manhattan and Wall Street was shut down, including all area airports and the Long Island Railroad. The airports were operating on backup power and operations were reported to be normal, officials said.
The New York City Police Department said they were trying to determine what happened. A Con Edison transformer on East 14th Street in Manhattan was on fire, according to CNN.
Thousands of people could be seen leaving buildings and walking into the streets. New York subways were reported stopped and people were trapped in the cars.

What makes them so sure that the fire at the power plant on Manhattan could not have been caused by terrorism? Because Bloomie said so!
