Hannity station went dead for about 20 seconds. Said he had never seen anything like it.

Power came back on at 10:38 Am, within 10 seconds to the hour from which it had gone off...

Thanks! We've been down a few times to visit friends who moved down 5 years ago and I absolutely fell in love with Texas. We didn't want to uproot our son during the high school years so we're sticking it out.

I haven't seen any indication of gas or germ warfare. The truth of the matter is the Power Companies all knew what happened and Terror wasn't an issue.Nor have I. And I hope we don't.
All that the people "on the ground" in Detroit-Chicago-Toronto-Ottawa-New York knew was that the lights were out, in their part of their city.
In the post 9/11 world, caution bordering on paranoia might be prudent.
Especially given the arrests at SeaTac the day before.
I guess my point is: these days I would tend to avoid bunching up as a target...

20 to the mile north south (22d st to 42 st = 1 mile). About 5 or 6 east west (1st ave to 7th ave = close to a mile)

Hi JustPiper. Wow, you earn a great big star for reading my post. I had to stop reading the thousands of posts on this thread after post 400! My eyes are getting bleary.

Is Gray Davis in New York? Add blackouts to the list of commonalities between Pataki and Davis. Others: People moving out of the state, high taxes, union payoffs.......

Caution yes. Panic no. I was cautious before 9/11 and panic is not in my DNA. You may startle me but I get my composure before I decide whether to laugh or punch or run. Panic is never the right response. I've seen people panic themselves from a minor threat into a real crisis. It only takes a few calm seconds to make the right choice based on the info you have. Fight or flee. If flee, don't flee the skateboarder into path of speeding truck.

Glad to hear you're back up! The images that Fox News has been running live of tourists and others sleeping in the streets of Manhattan are just amazing. >>
Much better than the images of 1977, eh?

Is this a Quebec Power repeat? Looks like Quebec couldn't handle the "cascade" and shut down the entire network.
The Canadian system will be shown to be the weak link, just like Chretian.

Sounds like we're on the same page. Different paragraphs, but same page...

Got home just before midnight last night. Like the rest of the masses, walked down 40 flights of stairs and walked from 48th and 6th down to the financial district, water bottle in hand.A commute you wont soon forget.

A real nightmare. But I actually was one of the lucky ones. I think those trapped below ground in the subways and came out smiling deserve some kind of a medal.
