So I'm staying home tonight. We lost power at work. So we went the bar to drink before it dot warm. Then I came home. Luckily I live far enough from the city that I have power at home.

I'm sorry but if I was in NY city, I'd be headed out of there now. LOL!! Yeah, you and 20 million people....

Careful, MO1, I got accused of being a Saddam supporter for asking what is the big deal. It's a power outage .. it's happened before
In fact Philly had one the other day due to a water main break

Thanks, makes sense.

Just what I was thinking. Looks marginally more impressive than a trash can fire. It's not as if the whole Empire State Building is ablaze. Sheesh, leave it to MSNBC to hype something this insignificant.

It appears that power is back on
Any FReepers in New Jersey? They've added it to the "blackout" map in the last half-hour or so.
Power was on in Central & South NJ earlier.

Just saw on MSNBC where Ashleigh Banfield has finally surfaced. She is on the streets of New York looking for stories like she was during 9-11.
Haven't seen her for a few months since she gave that speech lambasting her own network for the war coverage. Her contract is up soon and guess what they aren't renewing. Where oh where will poor Ashleigh end up. Maybe the Midnight to 6:00 A.M shift on CNN with Aaron Brown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Combined lunar/Martian tidal forces?? Hmmmm....

You are not alone with your concern.May it be over soon.

Yes, they are well grounded, but a lightening strike can take a generating station off line in a hurry. I've seen it happen.Yes, and if lightning gets into the control circuits, it can cause a multitude of seemingly unrelated circuit breaker trippings in the same station that might qualify as a double or triple contingency. This is true whether there's a generator involved or not. The control schemes are designed to deal with lightning, but it is a sometimes unpredictable force of nature.

The moron psychologist is talking about our "primitive" reaction to darkness, like in the jungle. If people were fearing ravaging lions, ok. But I think people are concerned about human predators.

Why? Bush has done a great job at inpromtu speeches. People still misunderestimate our President.

If the power was out here, I'd probably hit the bar too. Happy Hour specials. :)

it was our friends in toppling saddam(/sarcasm), Canada and Chretien, which caused this power outage. If our power grid is that vulnerable to our friends in Canada, then we have no one to blame but ourselves.
I have a hard time believing that the grid is that vulnerable. I tend to believe it's the BIG LIE. Orchestrate a massive breakdown for a couple of hours and then you can get the regulators to raise prices.
