Cleveland announced curfew at 9 pm.Don't trust their own people huh?

True ----the media would really hate to report that Americans stay calm and can endure this type of thing with few problems. They make more news and money if they can report otherwise.

Well, the actual due date from today would be May 6th. (38 weeks from conception date)

Here is the exact report on 1977.
http://blackout.gmu.edu/archive/pdf/ny_state_77.pdf
see pages 3-12 of pdf doc (not footer page numbers). It details the exact sequence from first lightning stroke, failure of grounding, to collapse.
I do NOT, repeat NOT, say that this IS what happened here, just that
(a) it is quite plausibele, and
(b) it will take a full technical workup like this report to know for sure.

I hope he just issues a statement read by the press secretary and not do an "announcement" alone or even worse, in front of the press.

Don't know... but it usually takes convective storms to cause cloud to ground lightning strikes. Something is fishy.

Bush to make statement to reporters in 13 minutes. It won't be telecast live (don't know why, maybe not enough time??) but certainly will be taped. He will speak to small group of reporters.

It's a smart precaution. I know it can't be enforced, but it helps.

And some of us non-city people are completely amazed when we discover city people are more hardy and durable than we like to stereotype them as being --- I keep waiting to read of some total disaster type rioting ..... but no word so far on anything like that.

It's Skynet taking over. First computer viruses, then power outages.
