Buffett Recruited as Schwarzenegger's Economic Adviser
Bloomberg no url | 8/13/3

Posted on 08/13/2003 11:57:30 AM PDT by NativeNewYorker

Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) --Arnold Schwarzenegger, the actor who is running for governor of California, said billionaire investor Warren Buffett will be the financial and economic adviser to his political campaign, the campaign said in a statement.

Buffett, the world's second-richest man, has built a fortune buy buying companies through his company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Debbie Bosanek, Buffett's assistant, didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Buffet has no problem with taxing as a means of revenue "enhancement",and his "billionareness" provides cover for Arnold to do exactly that.

Could be. I don't really have a dog in this fight and don't especially care who is the next gov out there. But considering the mood of the people right now, it seems that a "tax increase" would only start another recall. All I'm saying is that Buffett is a good financial guy but on economics he is a zero which doesn't much matter on a state basis. Yes, I would go ballistic if W were to name him as a Fed economic advisor. He would be a menace on the Federal level.

Yea keep arguing your California abortion issue nonsense...

http://www.cacatholic.org/respect4life/abortionlaw.html

In the 1981 California Supreme Court decision, Committee to Defend Reproductive Rights v. Myers, the Medi-Cal ban on funding of abortions (because of the federal ban on Medicare funding) was ruled unconstitutional because California's privacy law was not as narrow as that of the U.S. constitution. The justices in that decision found that the restriction (of not being able to afford to pay for an abortion) to be "an obstacle" to the exercising of the expressed constitutional right. The 1997 Supreme Court decision on parental consent for abortion, American Academy of Pediatrics v. Lungren, also found that a minor's right to privacy superseded her parent's rights as guardians.

............Women, including minors, who can not afford to pay for an abortion can request Medi-Cal services, thereby requiring taxpayers to subsidize her decision...........

For more than 30 years abortions have been legal in California. Before 1973 there was an attempt to regulate access to an abortion, but after the passage of the "privacy amendment" and the Roe v. Wade decision, "abortion-on-demand" was allowed in California. NOW AS OF SEPTEMBER 5, 2002, "ABORTION-ON-DEMAND" AS A RIGHT IS AFFIRMED IN CALIFORNIA's STATUTE BOOKS.

I give Arnold more credit for honesty than you do as I did when he supported government subsidized after school day care. I think he appointed Buffett as his *chief* economic advisor because he actually agrees with him! My explanation makes more sense that your convoluted Machievillian theory.

where does one get this "Sense" to vote for a Liberal?

Arnold's biz credentials - academic, philosophical and practical - are great. I do not understand the Buffett connection, given Omahaman's proclivity for giving cash to libs.

In other words, to make abortion illegal in California:
1. California constitution needs to be amended.

2. Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned.

3. The majority of the California legislators must be pro-life

4. California must elect a pro-life governor.

Now I get it. Electing a pro-life governor will make the difference.

Hehehe, you bet, that's what a big part of this is all about!

You watch California's economy, and budget mess get straightened out in record time. There is a lot on the line here, more than meets the eye.

Hi Hildy -

You'll never convince many here that none of this is or even should be about abortion. Insistence on sticking to very conservative principles will possibly cost us yet another election, though many of the rest of us went ahead and voted for Simon last time, albeit half-heartedly. It STILL didn't help!

I am getting kind of tired of repeating it: the race is between Arnold and Bustamante. McClintock and SImon don't even have the chance of a snowball in hell to beat Bustamente. So any vote for anyone other than Arnold, is a vote for Bustamente.

Do, if you prefer Bustamente, just say so, instead of coming up with all the bashing against Arnold.
