Okay, probably not the best ever. But knowing how Freepers just love to shoot down a boaster, I figure this is bait they won't be able to resist. ;^)
The Farewell Opus is a grand old tradition here at Free Republic, and there are certain rules one should follow, but I'm going to break some of them.
FIRST... I'm supposed to moan about how Free Republic used to be so great, but now it's changed and become nothing but a feuding, controlling zionist forum, or Bush-lovers forum, or whatever.
Not at all. I've been on FR since October 1999. I first appeared under a different handle, and after many contentions arguments I got banned for making a really nasty remark. I came back as a_perfect_lady to try and remind myself to behave better. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't. But during the ensuing 4 years, I can't say as I think FR has changed or devolved. It's still a great, great website. Maybe THE greatest. I came as a disrupter and I stayed to get an education. FR will always be my alma mater.
SECOND... I'm supposed to moan about all the great Freepers who've been banned by evil Jim Rob. Well, I don't think I've missed any of them, and some of them I was really happy to say goodbye to. (The psychotic Askel5, for example. Brrrrr!) I will not be going to a competing website like Lucianne's to bitch about Jim Rob. I think he's great.
THIRD... I'm supposed to moan about the factions and feuds here on FR. Well... okay, here I might say a few words. Here are the things I won't miss:
1) People who show up on the Atkins Diet threads and run up and down them yelling about thyroids and medications that mess up the metabolism. People, WE KNOW about that. We also know most fat people don't fit either category and those are the ones we are making "stop stuffing your face" remarks about.
2) Christians who group Objectivists in with Communists and say atheism has killed 100 million people in the 20th century. No it hasn't. Marxism has.
3)Atheists who group Christians and Jews in with Muslims to say that "religion" has killed 100 million people in the last 2000 years. Christians haven't declared war on America. Muslims have. (Yeah, yeah, not every last one. But enough of them.)
4) Trolls.
5) Paranoid anti-Israel tinfoil Raimondo types. What is WITH you people??
But here is what I WILL miss:
Viking Kitties, the Varmint Cong in the crosshairs, and the almighty ZOT!!
Seriesly hugh stories, moose, cheese, and Chad Fairbanks' armadillos.
Lazamataz, truly the funniest, best Freeper ever.
So why am I leaving? This question must be just burning in your minds, keeping you up at night! Well, it's like this:
I'm not leaving in disgust, I'm graduating. I'm reluctantly leaving the safety, familiarity, and comfort of FR the way a 23-year old finally moves out of mom's basement because if I don't I'll just continue to grow crankier. My views have been developed by Freepers, but there is no longer any point in quibbling over the details with fellow Freepers who are the same faith but a different denomination, so to speak. No point in bickering over whether there's a God when I know that the real issue is retaining our sovereignty and never letting the UN override our Constitution.
No point in bickering over abortion when I know (or I feel) that the real issue is how Marxism has taken over feminism, the civil rights movement, the public schools and universities, and some of the churches.
No point in bickering over whether to fund Israel when the real issue is that the enemies of Israel are the enemies of the US, and whether we fund them or don't fund them, whether they fight or allow themselves to be destroyed, the SOBs who hate them will come for us next.
No point in explaning to Freepers who don't realize that HOW WE FIGHT is not what makes us superior (all those "don't sink to their level" types who mince around telling us to "fight nice.") WHAT WE FIGHT FOR is what makes us superior. I know some of you will never agree with me but you know what? As long as you know WE HAVE TO FIGHT! I'll have to be content with that.
Let me say, in closing, to all the Freepers I've had nasty, cranky, bitchy exchanges with you. You are still, in my book, 100 times more valuable than all the ponytailed professors, Botoxed Hollywood celebs, and tofu-eating No Blood For Oil college brats put together.
Now I must go forth, search new websites, gird my loins to battle the enemy... and do the laundry. Left to my darling other half, I'd have an all-purple wardrobe full of static cling.
Farewell, beloved FR.... long may you reign!
FReeping is like breathing air or drinking water. Stop and you die. I'll stop Freeping when they pry my cold, dead hands... well, you know the rest.
