In the Beginning

God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God. "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?"

"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance." "Balance?" Inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over there I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people," God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot and while this one will be very cold and covered in ice." The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land mass and said "What's that one?"

"Ah," said God. "That's California the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful beaches, deserts, streams, hills, and forests. The people from California are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about balance, God? You said there would be balance!!!"

God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the idiots I put in Sacramento."

The idiots in Sacramento are Democrats. If God put them there, is God a Democrat? Or simply an idiotic voter?

Really.

The Golden State will soon become the Pearly Gates, as the "church which IS his body", opens them, and asks Californians to enter New Jerusalem. What happens in California becomes a trend around the world. And now you know where the "Gospel of the Kingdom" will first be preached. Man fell in the garden eastward in Eden. Man will be restored westward starting in the Golden State by the Golden Church, who is "without spot or blemish", having been completely redemmed and cleansed of sin, sickness, and death. Such as they have they will give to the world. The first Eve caused the fall of man, the second Eve, the "bride of Christ", will restore man back to his first estate, and open the Pearly Gates back into the Garden of Eden.

I don't know how to respond to this post! You must have more faith in Kalifornians than I do.

It sounds more like God subscribes to the Yin/Yang teaching of Buddhism.

I'm sorry but I'm in a pedanic mood tonight. Yin/Yang is part of Taoism not Buddhism.

Well it is taught in Buddhism too.

I see one reference to Daoism here and one reference to Buddhism http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/55/069.html

It seems you're right that it originated in Taoism but Buddhism seems to use it too.

In refreshing my memory I notice those eastern religions are all very closely related in thought process - almost like denominations of the Christian church. (to risk sounding a bit blasphemous...)

Actually I may have been entirely wrong. The Yin-Yang is a part of Zen Buddhism which is the Japanese version of Cha'an Buddhism which was pretty much wiped out by the communists in China. Cha'an Buddhism was heavily influenced by Taoism so it's no suprise it would borrow the Yin-Yang.

However there's appearently some debate over where the symbol came from, and it may have come from Tantric Buddhism originally. Which would mean you're absolutely right.

I suppose you could make an argument of God having a sense of humor.

Or, you you could go with the yin/yang concept that others point out. Or, you could take Aquinas' approach and state that you can't appreciate the light without the dark, life without death, good without evil, etc.

Or, there's the old standby, $h*t happens.

I think I would like this a lot more with two simple changes:

1. Replace "California" with "America"

2. Repace "Sacromento" with "California"

Seems to be a much better fit :)
