I really can't see why any serious Republican would spend more than an Austrian minute on this unsuitable candidate.

Because they want to win at all costs. They'd vote for the president of NAMBLA if he was leading in the polls and running as a Republican.

I like arnold OK but after listening to him speak and answer questions these past days, I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher.

If there was ever, ever the most minute chance of me voting for Arnold, this just killed it.

Then they are beneath our notice, and we must leave all to the God of Justice and Mercy ... and do what we can to support McClintock!
Cheers,

In other words, this is Riordan's second chance and Arnold is his hand puppet. Two for the price of one!

One of Riordan's rivals, Secretary of State Bill Jones, has compiled evidence questioning whether Riordan can even be considered a Republican, by any thoughtful standard. Here's a guy who called Bill Clinton "the greatest leader in the free world," and who has given so much money to Democratic candidates and causes that the Democratic Party made him an honorary Democrat at its L.A. convention.
In 1993, one of Riordan's campaign mailers bragged that he is "no Reagan Republican." During key times in various races, he has thrown his support behind the Democratic candidate, such as when he loaned Tom Bradley half-a-million dollars during his hard-fought gubernatorial races with Republican George Deukmejian in 1982 and 1986, according to published reports. Riordan has helped not only "moderate" Democrats, but the left-wingers also, including Maxine Waters, Antonio Villaraigosa and Barbara Boxer.
He outflanks Gov. Davis on the left on issues including the death penalty and gun control, and agrees with him on most everything else. Riordan's advisers are a who's who of Democratic strategists including former Michael Dukakis campaign manager Susan Estrich and Democratic pollster Pat Cadell. See OC Register link

"Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger has tapped former Los Angeles Mayor Dick Riordan to create an "issues team" made up of experts on California policy to help his campaign develop specific proposals, Fox News has learned."
---
This just shows that Arnold is much smarter, than people are giving him credit for and that he does have a plan, which he is implementing.
He may yet win, despite of the leftist-loving Republicans, pretending to be conservatives who are supporting Bustamente by siphoning votes away from Arnold for losers like Simon and McClintock. Issa had integrity, he withdrew from the race, even though he financed the recall.

Please explain what is accomplished by voting for McClintock or Simon, when that will result in the election of a leftist like Bustamente to finish the destruction of California.
You all know where the road paved with good intentions leads...

Hmmmm...Richard Riordan did such a bang-up job at his last run for governor. If there's anybody who knows how to blow a 40 point lead in two months time, it's Riordan.

Maybe Arnold is bringing Riordan on board so that Arnold can play Jerry Seinfeld to Riordan's George Costanza - that way when Riordan gives Arnold advice on some issue, Arnold will know that the successful move is to do the exact opposite.

LOL! I love it.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
Pity that you don't see that this is a great pairing -- Riordan should have been governor already -- he was a fine mayor, two times, in L.A.
Go Arnold!
To: CounterCounterCulture
Riordan's previous "team" underestimated the viciousness of Davis and company. Davis attacked Riordan so terribly with false statements before our last primary, and Riordan's team didn't effectively retaliate, believing it wouldn't matter too much. Wrong.
So... instead we got Simon in the general election who, despite votes from many of the previously PRO-RIORDAN crowd, including ME (I had to hold my nose to vote for Simon), caused us to have Davis again and the rest is history.
That, Mr. CCC, is the situation in a nutshell. Many mainstream Repubs. in CA voted for your man, Simon, while many more said "no way" and voted for Davis.

McClintock can win if we consevatives unite
behind him and don't throw votes
away on Arnold we will have Governor McClintock.
To: jwalsh07
Since Arnold isn't running for anything in your state, Connecticut, you need not be troubled over the situation.

The Republicans in TN and IL tried your strategy five years ago and accomplished ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with their RINO governors. I remember "moderate" Republicans pleading with me to elect George Ryan because "we CANNOT let the Democrats win during Clinton's impeachment -- we have to send a message by voting STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN". Well, their little corrupt RINO won without my help and proceeding to raise taxes, promote abortion, cuddle with Castro, almost completely ban guns (stopped only by the Senate Republicans balking), and freed all the murderers on death row. The liberal media beat up on Bush in Illinois for not being as "compassionate" as George was to the murderers, and George said nothing but offered some token 'endorsement' to Bush-- even though he couldn't think of ANYTHING they agreed on other than building a third airport in the Chicago area. Then Ryan went around saying the GOP deserved to lose when the "hard right" in the legislature wouldn't endorse his socialist agenda. He actually was silent during redistricting and made sure more 'RATs were elected to keep his "vision" for Illinois intact. The state GOP won't recover for another 40 years thanks to electing a scumbag RINO who "could win".
And isn't it funny how the ARINOLD backers keep screaming McClintock (lost statewide by less than 1%) "can't win", but G.W. Bush (lost statewide by 12%+ will magically be a "shoo-in" as long as ARINOLD is Governor?
