Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they one of the few unions with a history of supporting Republicans?

What a loser! Geepfart won't make it past Iowa and then he'll slink back to his home in North Carolina (not Missouri) to look for his eyebrows.

I'm a Teamster and I don't remember this issure coming up for a membership wide vote. Oh, that's right you can't vote on this and if you don't like your money going to Gephardt you have to resign from the Union to save yourself the .75 cents a month they say they spend on political stuff.

Yeah right.

The Teamsters endorsed Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, but they turned leftward with Ron Carey as president of the union.

I've never been in a union (my father has), but I've never understood why they are so enamored with big government, other than that they are run by socialists and communists.

They constantly push for government run health care, but all of their members have coverage in their contracts. So it doesn't seem to be self-interest. It's got to be ideology.

Plus they all like to talk about how "tough" they are, but they want big government to fight all of their battles for them (through OSHA, NLRB, etc.).

Yeah...this makes a lot of sense. Gephardt voted against drilling in ANWR, the Teamsters were for it. So who is pulling the strings here?

ahem...could it be Khodorkovsky? His pal George Soros just pledged $10 million to defeat Bush in 2004. Haim Saban kicked in over $10 million to knock off Republicans in 2002.

Ya know I was just going to post something like: I guess the media believes all union members are mindless zombies that vote just what the leadership says. Don't be mad about the 75 cents, a lot more than that is being stolen from your paycheck that helps the government retain its chokehold on us.

The Communist Party USA seems to be undecided on their favorite Democrat candidate. Kerry, Sharpton, Mosley-Braun and Dean seem to be somewhat popular among the Communists.

The prevailing idea behind unionism is that the laborer, on his own, is powerless to negotiate fair wages and treatment from his employer. It's a short step from that philosophy to the idea that the average citizen is impotent in all walks of life without the guiding hand of government.

The news today showed pro impeachment folks rallying in Calif being attacked by unionists for Davis. Gotta believe these thugs were from some afl-cio union.
Support unions? Sorry, I am not a thug.

Is C-SPAN still on the air? I deleted it from my TV when they became the voice of the DNC. I was told by someone who still watches it that on Friday Brian Lamb seemed
SHOCKED, SHOCKED to see that the Republican lines were all clear while the Dems had theirs loaded. Maybe, Brian, that's because you've turned your Washington Journal into
Crossfire with Carville and Begala. All Democratic propaganda all the time!

I am a C-SPAN fan, especially C-SPAN II's Book TV on the weekends. As neither Democrat,Republican, Libertarian or Communist, I do not see a lack of balence on the network. By the way the problem isn't a matter of party, the problem is the inherently criminal institution called the state.

I'm inclined to agree with you. If they only cared about workers' issues, they would have rallied around Pat Buchanan with his protectionism and all. It seems unions in general (though I'd believed the Teamsters were an exception) have been taking stands on issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with the rights of their members.
