Arnold, by definition, CANNOT both be a fiscal conservative and SOCIAL liberal: I just love the way that moderate politicians tend to label themselves that way!

FISCAL CONSERVATIVE: don't spend excess monies from government on social programs best handled from the private sector: we trust market forces to do this; gov'ts have no business in social engineering.
SOCIAL LIBERAL: spend all kinds of gov't monies on social programs, for we don't trust the private sector to do anything.

I'm sorry, but Arnold's OWN WORDS belie him: he believes he wants to do both of the above, which is impossible! Rush is merely pointing out that he's NOT the next incarnation of Reagan.... or even GW Bush, for that matter! Rush's point is simply this: Arnold is telling you Californians what he would do: and it's not conservative. Elect him if you like (it's obviously your choice), but do so with your eyes and ears open.

What I really don't get about his "platform" is this:
(a) He sez we can't afford social programs: they have driven away business.
(b) He then says that once business comes back, he can resume the social programs.
Excuse me, sir, but that won't bring 'em back: the over-regulation and over-taxation drove them away -- the only thing that will get business prosperous is to reduce the burden permanently.

I'd take your statement a little more seriously if you used standard American English. Since you are unable to write a simple sentence correctly, I question your ability to parse a lengthy speech.

Does this sound like "the Next Reagan,"

Hardly.

But he sounds like he could be the next Evita.

>>>Arnold is not Reagan ....

I don't disagree with what you've said. All Rush is doing is making political observations that are crystal clear to most people willing to open their eyes and face the truth.

California is a very liberal state and has shifted towards total Democrat domination over the last decade. Arnald appeals to some conservatives and some liberals, but his strength lies with the independents in the mushy middle.

Who knows, may be Arnald will win the recall election and have a political reincarnation while in office. Otherwise he will govern as a moderate to liberal Republican, at best.

I guess you are a big expert on California politics then...

Yep
Simon lost
People want to punish Davis, but not reward Simon. He will remind them of Davis. Arnold is new and exciting. If he is not toppled by the Democrat friendly media, he should win as ordinary people would give the actor a chance. The Democrats know the endgame and will rally around someone to keep California in the D column for 2004. There best chance is a split Republican ticket with Simon attacking Schwarznegger and reminding everyone why the Democrats are in control (and should remain in control). That should not happen. Simon should only remain in the race as insurance. He should absolutely not run any ads against any other Republican. No Republican should run negative ads. They should stay on message, positive, "feel the love."

Conservatives pure enough for that loudmouth blowhard don't do well in California.

you just contradicted yourself.. i think.. it almost sounds like your not a big fan of rush.. </s>

Schwarzenegger, for all his faults (and he has many), is conservative where it counts--economic and fiscal policy, which is the first and foremost problem facing California right now.

Arnie may be a financial conservative, but that is not what rush is saying.. not sure what you are trying to say, but one catagory (being fiscally conservative) does not make him a well rounded conservative.. as for his fiscal policies, i guess we will see when he gets elected.. (i think i will make it)

Thank you Rush. I'm turning blue in the face trying to get this message across to all
these star-struck celebrity slobbering Arnold fans.

Just my opinion, but Rush has been out of California too long.
The electorate in California has turned so liberal that they can't take the shock-treatment
of a Simon or McClintock.

Arnold has flaws, but he's just about the best incremental step back to
political and financial sanity that the general California electorate
might find acceptable.

I'd much prefer Simon or McClintock, but I suspect they won't be elected AND
even if elected they might not have the knack for using publicity to shame the lefties
who are really controlling California into at least getting the finances of the
state back on an even keel.

I'm not being argumentative...just saying how I see it as an Okie who's been
in California during the Davis era.

First off.....IF...Arnold is a "conservative".....I've seen very little, if any...evidence of it.

Secondly, I've learned more from and respect the "loudmouth blowhard" way more than most / many of the folks on FR.

Thirdly...I dunno how in the heck you can come to any conclusion ( let alone it being a "conservative" slant..) on Arnold's "economic and fiscal policy"....at this point in time.

FWIW--

"Ya know, serial carpetbaggers like Rush should STFU about California's politics."

That's why he's a political and social commentator....You've never struck me as someone who opposed free speech...

Arnie IS a social liberal....pro-gun control, supports abortion "rights" and has a vast array of liberal social programs that he would like supported. This is his past record....He was strongly opposed to the impeachment of Clintoon...

Ann Coulter stated as much on Hanity & Colmes....should she "STFU" too? How about Hanity, same opinion...Drudge (eeuch) same opinion.....

Arnie's on screen persona belies his real positions...If you don't believe this, wait....Arnie will define himself between now and the election for those who doubt.

I do not like Arnold as Govener.

But.... ho wdo you expect to win with the GOP vote split 3 or 4 ways.

The Dems will be split 1 or 2 ways and they WILL win.

The only question left is how it will effect the GOP in other states.

but his own words prove he's not a conservative

Absolutely. I read up on his political ideals a couple of years ago and he is very much a socialist.
