Schwarzenegger on Leno
Schwarzenegger, best known for playing a killer robot in three "Terminator" movies, opened his campaign with a raw display of the extraordinary media platform at his disposal, announcing his candidacy on NBC's "Tonight Show With Jay Leno."
Among those caught off-guard by the announcement was his close friend and another potential candidate, former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. One of Riordan's closest advisers said the mayor thought he had an understanding that Schwarzenegger would withdraw from the race, easing Riordan's way in.

"So this is what it feels like to be mugged," the adviser said.

If they sow discontent within RINOs that may be enough to assure a conservative (McClintock) victory. There are so many RATs in this one that we've got a real chance with a low turnout.I'm not even gonna try to predict what is going to happen here. I figure that, with such a low hurdle to enter this race ($3500 and 65 signatures), that about a tenth of the state will be on the ballot come election time. Me, I figure the porn stars who have already entered the race have the best chance, they obviously already understand the core philosophy of California politics.

Sounds like BS from an aide who was looking forward to working on Riordan's campaign. Riordan made no indication he was going to run. The story I heard (leaked by one of Arnold's people) was that Arnold had dinner Sunday night with Riordan and presured him to decide one way or the other. He could get no definite commitment from Riordan that he was going to run. With only a few days left to file that convinced him to go for it.

"Drudge seemed very angry last night on H & C. He was doing everything to say that Schwarzeneggar has so much scandal in past that he will never win"It's California. It won't matter. He's likely to win.
While he MUST be fiscally conservative - he parlayed his Mr Universe title into even more millions before he got with the Kennedy clan, so he knows how to turn a buck - I hope he can handle the financial mess that Davis has made of CA.
For that, the first thing he needs is to have his priorities straight: fix the finances FIRST! Cut the meaningless social spending that helps no one but the social workers themselves! Cut taxes!

Arnold said a short while ago that Riordan had already called him this morning and was happy. This press report is most likely garbage.

Riordan...always looking for a free lunch.
Arnold when elected, is a base to re-energize Republicans in the state. That will be a newing beginning for the party.

...they obviously already understand the core philosophy of California politics.I can't believe you made that type of comparison. Don't those women demand the citizens of California use some sort of protection before they do to them what the political leaders in Sacramento have been doing to them for decades, without protection. You owe these women an appology. ;-)

Probably true, but I thought the Riordan aide sounded pathetic. Someone should call his mommy.

If you had ever been mugged you wouldn't even compare it.

Sounds more likely than this story, though I had read all the headlines about how Arnie was going to back Riordan too.
Glad to hear it, because I was crowing about it so much I hade people - mostly women, though a lot of guys are fans due to the macho-ness - on both sides of the political aisle WISHING they were CA residents because he'd have their vote.
As I said before, he's likely to win. He's a shoo-in. Grey must be having a total breakdown!

I never realized there were Prop 187 Brand condoms. Guaranteed not to break unless Gray Davis sticks them with a pin...

I'm not that excited about Arnie, but I'm delighted to see Riordan out of the race. He's a much worse RINO that Arnie could ever be.
