THE inaugural International Black Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Film Festival kicks off Tuesday at Oakland's Parkway Theater. The film festival is part of "Bay Area Black In the Life," a weeklong celebration of African and African-American gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender life and culture.
The two-day event -- held Aug. 12 and 17 -- features films and shorts taking a look at the lives of famous and not-so-famous black gays and lesbians from around the globe.
Featured opening day films are "The Edge of Each Other's Battles," an award-winning documentary that examines the work of Audre Lorde, screening at 6:30 p.m.; and "Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin," winner of the San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival Best Documentary Award, showing at 9:15 p.m.
Accompanying shorts screening opening day include "Butch Mystique," a look at butch African-American life, and "A Different Kind of Black Man," discussions with successful, black gay men.
The Aug. 17 screenings highlight a mixture of features and shorts, starting at 3 p.m. and concluding with the feature "Dakan," perhaps the first film on homosexuality from sub-Sahara Africa, airing at 6 p.m.
The film festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkway Theatre, 1834 Park Blvd., Oakland.

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Maybe they could fool conservatives into attending by highlighting the film PARIS IS BURNING.

Now that's what I call equal rights - blacks have just as much right to be sickening queers as every other race.

Oh, no!
...This is just another attempt by the hard Left to keep Blacks on the DemocRAT plantation (of course I say this with plenty of sarcasm).

Ok, but when the is the Eskimo-Hermaphrodite-Homosexual-Zorostrian-Raelian film festival??? This is a sure sign of discrimination against Eskimo-Homosexual-Transvestite-Zorostrian-Raelians ;)

They certainly are getting all the affirmative action bases covered.

Maya Angelou must have missed mentioning them, on Inauguration Day '93.

If while in a San Francisco bar someone offers to "push in your stool," don't walk -- RUN -- away.
