MONROVIA, Liberia, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- President Charles Taylor of Liberia has reneged on his promise to step down once peacekeepers arrived, a London newspaper reported Wednesday.
Taylor said Tuesday night war crimes charges against him must be dropped before he accepts Nigeria's offer of sanctuary, the Telegraph said.

Why are we still allowing this guy to breathe? He's no better than Hussein. I don't think even Saddam had peoples' arms hacked off. I can't imagine letting Taylor off the hook by allowing him to live the rest of his life out in exile.

Sadaam did, or had done in his name, many things as horrendous (or even more horrendous, if there is even an accurate scale for such things) as that.
Feet first through the plastic shredder comes immediately to mind. Many forms of dismemberment come to mind right after that.

Apparently, the International Community decided that getting Taylor out of power was more important than prosecuting him for war crimes.

This scumbag has to go. I think now the only question is who is going to force him out? The rebels (I've heard they're Muslim), the West Africans, or are American Marines going to go on the ground to remove him?

I read a profile on this butcher published in "The New Yorker" in 1998. The only way to get rid of him is to kill him. He'll continue to bleed the people of Liberia, stealing their wealth and undermining reform, as long as he's alive.

This whole thing begs the question, why is the UN pushing hard to have him removed, and at the same time remaining silent on Hussein and Mugabe?

I agree. However, the question is, who will kill him? The rebels, the West Africans, or US Marines.

I don't know for sure, however there are many reasons why.
I've read the rebels in Liberia are Islamofascists and they're loved by the UN.
Another reason is they see this as a way to suck some more money and blood from the United States.
I too would like to know why the UN wants Taylor gone, but not Saddam or Mugabe.

I'd prefer British SAS but if necessary let the Frogs go in and do it.
Let the SAS do it. The Frogs will just surrender to him.
