MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 5 The clergyman seeking to become the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church has been cleared of 11th-hour allegations, church sources have confirmed, NBC News Jim Avila reported Tuesday afternoon. The vote by bishops to confirm the elevation of the Rev. V. Gene Robinson, which had been postponed Monday for an investigation into the surprise allegations, was rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The number of Catholics who vote for Democrats is much higher among Catholics who rarely go to Church than among weekly churchgoers. The vast majority of Mass-every-week Catholics I know are Republicans or at least vote for Republicans most of the time. I take some comfort in that.

Well if they elect this guy I am leaving the AME Faith. I think you're in the clear. The AME is an offshoot of the Methodists in the early 1800s. See here. Nothing to do with the Episcopal Church USA, except very distant history (the Methodists split off the Anglican Church in England - so did the ECUSA - and the AME split off the Methodists.)
Your church may have issues of its own, but this isn't one of them (for which you all should praise God, fasting, as they say.) As far as I know, the AMEs are far more Biblically oriented and conservative than the Episcopalians.

I shall see. As much as I like my church, there is a "Gay Mafia" that (so far) has been kept off the vestry and out of the pulpit. Unlike some Episcopal churches I've visited, there are no calls for tolerance, inclusion and diversity from the clergy. Our mission remains to know and share the love of Jesus Christ.
If that changes... if anything happens to sour me on my parish, I will go RC in a heartbeat.

I don't think any of them have ever read the Bible - or at least 2/3rds of them haven't.

Anglican Use? That sounds intriguing. One of the things I've always loved about my Episcopalian faith is the traditions and rituals - they're inspiring yet soothing.

Yep, "The Mother Hive" exactly describes the situation to a T.
Kipling was a very prescient man.

In other news, Bishop Pat McGroin was interviewed with his life partner, Polly the parrot. Polly will tell you how much shes in love with McGroin too!
One small detail . . . Pat's life partner is Phil McCracken.

My girlfriend (fellow Epis.) was just visiting and we were discussing the exact same thing. We are all waiting on pins and needles. Our church sounds like yours....would be extrememly difficult to leave. In June, no one thought it would come to this. Suprise, suprise.

Here's a list of all the Anglican Use parishes in the U.S.:
Anglican Use Parishes They are all in Texas, except for one in Columbia SC, which doesn't do us much good as it is nearly 3 hours away. << sigh >>

Lucky you! You have a parish in your home town. It's the first Anglican Use Parish in the U.S., and is named after the famous shrine to the Virgin in England.

I see we're crossing in the ether.
I wouldn't be surprised if somebody founded an Anglican Use parish in Atlanta. In fact, I think I know the parish Most Likely to Secede, so to speak. They are so "high" that you get a nosebleed when you walk in. They almost left after women were ordained and the prayer book changed. I think they'll probably bail this time.

The apostacy before the rapture. It will only get worse and in more churches...
To: AnAmericanMother
Go to Yahoo, put "Coming Home" and "Scott Hahn" into the search field, and you'll get to the Coming Home website. Start here. I fear if you "cold call" Catholic churches, some liberal Catholic priest will tell you to stay where you are.
Go to the Coming Home website and look for practical staeps-by-steps there. I wish you the best.

Yep, that's the problem with churches...too damned many sinners!

Thanks! I'll look into it.
There is a Latin Mass parish about 8 miles from our house, bet THEY aren't liberal . . . whaddya think? :-D I'm pretty fluent in Latin (unofficial translator of Latin and Greek texts for our choir) so it doesn't worry me a bit, but it might give my ex-Methodist husband ecclesiastical whiplash . . . . ;-)

An Anglican Use Church is being started up in New York City. If you would be interested in an Anglican Use parish, call one of the existing ones and say so. Perhaps the Holy Spirit will lead Epsicopalians to start a mini-revolution in the Catholic Church!

"I'm kind of sorry to have spouted off so much. I normally don't do that. This issue, however, is reaching a boiling point for many people and I could not hold my tongue."
Well that is what FR is all about. . .%^)!
Re your conclusions:
"Homosexuality may be normal for one individual or another but it is not normal for a society. If this behavior is allowed to co-exist as normal, other abnormal behaviors will demand inclusion. "
It is an endless slippery slope. Do think more people are beginning to feel the same way. . .
. . . supposedly the statistics are showing that the general population is feeling less 'friendly'; less receptive, to the homosexual agenda/'Gay Rights'movement.

:This means that Anglicans can convert to Catholic but not lose the liturgy they are familiar with." Interesting accomodation; they were not so accomodating with Catholics who wanted stay with the familiar 'Latin Mass'. . .
