Ecclesiastes 7

5It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise
Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6For like the crackling of thorns under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool.
        This also is vanity.
        7Surely oppression destroys a wise man's reason,
And a bribe debases the heart.

        8The end of a thing is better than its beginning;
The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
9Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry,
For anger rests in the bosom of fools.
        10Do not say,
"Why were the former days better than these?"
For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.

11Wisdom is good with an inheritance,
And profitable to those who see the sun.
12For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense,
But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

        13Consider the work of God;
For who can make straight what He has made crooked?
14In the day of prosperity be joyful,
But in the day of adversity consider:
Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other,
So that man can find out nothing that will come after him.

OUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED

The other day, I asked for prayers for my son Paul who has been suffering for years from cancer. Today, he got the results of his most recent test. He has only .001 cancer in the liver and various other organs, and his skin cancer is ZERO.

He will still have some reaction to all those years of treatments, but otherwise he only has to go in for checkups.

By the way, the reaction to GOOD news is so unusual after many years of bad news, that they routinely schedule an appointment for a patient with a psychologist. I can understand that because the news STILL HASN'T been assimilated by *me*. My son says he's teetering between shock and the realization that life can start all over again.

He says he has learned many lessons, humility being one of them, and reliance on God the most important one.

THANK YOU all for your prayers. I HAD to share the good news with you.

I forgot to add that Paul wants you all to know how much he appreciates your prayers. He can't get over how giving you are.

Ladies, I will have you know that Marty has me to thank in large part for his ratings problem. They asked me to do a Nielsen diary last week. I who almost never watch TV. There was a section in the back to give your comments on TV in general and I blistered their ears. I didn't watch much TV the week I kept the diary. It is the second time I've been asked to do one. Last time we watched more TV than we do now.
One of the things I said is that there is almost nothing on TV that is entertaining. Vulgarity, cursing, illicit sex is not fun to watch. Can't enjoy it. etc etc.
I named names and wrote an essay about TV. That was fun.

Women become baronets whereas men become knights.

I am SOOOOO glad our 15-day streak of intolerable weather has shrugged off! I felt good today!

I'm going to post a little bit more about "Seabiscuit" in a min.

Gretchen, thanks for posting the dose and the ping. I loved the second picture. Don't know when he's heading for Texas, but I enjoy the dose when I can get it.

HSM, you said something about first? First how? First before Brad's Gramma? I saw two other posters before you. An explanation is in order.

Thanks to all those who gave mentions of good movies in this thread. It is nice to get a review from someone whose opinion you trust. I'll have to watch Seabiscuit and Pirates. I've heard a number of people say they were good movies. I hate spending money to see movies anymore, I might wait for the video to come out, but I will definitely see them.

More on "Seabiscuit" -- I don't think I've ever been in a theater where the audience was so involved, so verbally interactive and apparently at times involuntarily, with a movie. The audience was reacting as if they were part of the story! (I was too.)

It has a wonderful ending. The sorrows and heart-racing events are laced throughout the story. The PBS "Seabiscuit" told about the further injuries of Red Pollard (the main jockey), other races and near misses, and about Pollard's marriage. It included an interview with his daughter.

The new movie is just breathtaking. Music is superb. Casting = exquisite. I don't know how this thing isn't going to get loaded up with Oscars. And I say that as a major fan of The Lord of the Rings.

Same here. I've also done two over the years. Boy, did I ever take advantage of the opportunities! Even if my comments probably didn't have much impact, it sure felt good to holler at them! :^O

Gretchen, thank you for the pictures. I think the web has gremlins at work today. I kept losing my connection at work, then again at home. Definitely see Seabiscuit. I saw it last night and it's a wonderful, uplifting movie with beautiful scenery.

Cancel previous post! I obviously am not retaining what I'm reading. Now I understand you already saw Seabiscuit and I will slink off shamefacedly to bed and promise not to drink wine before I look at The Dose!
