FOX NEWS CHANNEL TO AIR SERIES ON UNBORN VICTIMS

For some time, the Fox News Channel has been working on a story on "fetal rights" issues, including the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. In preparing this series, Fox interviewed Tracy Marciniak of Wisconsin, whose unborn son Zachariah was killed in a criminal assault in 1992. (The photo of Tracy holding Zachariah has been featured in NRLC's ads and on the NRLC website at www.nrlc.org.) Fox also taped Tracy's testimony before a U.S. House subcommittee on July 8. In addition, Fox interviewed Wisconsin Right to Life Legislative Director Sue Armacost, who worked with Tracy to win enactment of Wisconsin's strong unborn victims law.

We have now been advised that Fox will air the story as a two-part series today (Wednesday July 30) and tomorrow (Thursday July 31) on "Special Report with Brit Hume" (6 pm Eastern Time).

In addition, shorter versions of the two parts -- but perhaps with some additional sound bites -- will air on "DaySide with Linda Vester" (1 pm Eastern) on Thursday, July 31, and Friday, August 1. Also, short segments from the series may air "throughout the day" on the Fox News Channel on Thursday and/or Friday.

One Victim, or Two?

The news media are currently giving extensive coverage to the double murder in California of Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner. But such two-victim crimes happen very frequently, usually without extensive press coverage. This is a photo of Tracy Marciniak of Wisconsin, holding the body of her son Zachariah. The photo was taken at Zachariah's funeral. Tracy Marciniak was seriously injured, and Zachariah was killed, by an assault during the ninth month of the pregnancy. Do you think this photograph shows one victim, or two? You may be surprised to learn that, according to pro-abortion groups, this photo shows only one victim. Groups like NARAL insist that the law must never legally recognize unborn members of the human family, and they are blocking the Unborn Victims of Violence Act in Congress.

I was in Wal Mart yesterday, making a purchase at the pharmacy, when I noticed a large display dealing with Women's Health (apparently, men's health is of no consequence). One of the pamphlets was dealing with drinking alcohol while pregnant, and said "When you drink while pregnant, you're drinking for two." So, a fetus is not a human being and can be aborted yet, a pregnant woman shouldn't drink or smoke while pregnant because it might harm that non-person inside of her that isn't a human being? That is quite a double-standard.

My God, I thought he was sleeping, and that he was her second child or something. The caption didn't identify him as Zachariah.

It is great irony, imo, that in order to maintain their agenda, situations such as these force NARAL and PP and NOW to show themselves as the ghouls they are. May God bless Tracy with more beautiful children to love.

Yes it is quite a double standard, exacerbated by the fact a woman can be prosecuted for compromising the health of her unborn child, and that child can be taken away when he/she is born, as a result of reckless prenatal behavior.

You see, neglecting to care for a fetus is illegal, but killing it is just dandy.

The photo shows 2 victims but one can only imagine how many other victims there are off camera. Maybe not *legally* speaking but in the sense that most crimes affect so many more people than the legally defined victims. It seems to me that this point while not unique to this point of law may have extra bearing as the loss of an unborn son, daughter, sister, brother, etc. must sting particularly hard and maybe even harder when the survivors receive the message that the legal system doesn't recognize their loss.

It's amazing. Their thinking defies all logic and common sense. If you want the baby, he or she is a baby. If you don't want the baby, he or she is "tissue".

A physician friend of mine had a colleague who desperately wanted children but could not for several reasons. She and her husband convinced her sister to carry their in-vitro baby to term, the sister agreed.

After several weeks a "problem" arose. The sister was carrying three babies. The "doctor" and her husband demanded that her sister have a "reduction abortion". Two kids would be fine but not three. The sister refused--it was after all her body and her "choice" and she happened to think abortion was not an acceptable one.

Now this "doctor", a physician, fully understood what was at stake. IMO-she represents the mentality of our sick and dying Republic.

This happened over ten years ago, and still makes me nauseated thinking about it.

I saw this today. Told the story of a mother in Michigan who fought to have the unborn classified a "Live" so that what happened to her (Her husband punched her (pregnant) ibn the stomach -- killing the child within her.) would not ever happen to anyone else.

Also told the story of a mother in Utah influencing Orin Hatch to approve embryonic stem cell research. I disagree with Hatch.

The premise of the report was the "greying" of the boundaries that were once black and white.
