WASHINGTON – A major hotel chain that will not make top-rated Fox News Channel available to guests has a record of individual campaign contributions heavily favoring Democrats.

Federal Election Commission records reviewed by NewsMax.com show that among those officials who list Starwood or a Starwood hotel property as their workplace favored Democrats by better than 3 to 1 over Republicans for the 1999-2000 election cycle.

Starwood's hotels include Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis, Luxury Connection, Four Points and, ironically, W.

I think it is also useful, when going to a city with such a hotel--to call or email and say why you made the choice to stay in another [specified] hotel.

And include a document about Shrillery's traitorous, evil behavior.

We always ask when we make a reservation. We used to get some chuckles. Not any more. A lot of guests are doing that now, asking if the hotel has FNC.

What a great suggestion!

Yeah, I've been a Westin Hotel fan since before the Japanese owned them.

The koi fish ponds and other oriental accoutrements were nice.  However, as the economy in Japan continued to sour in the 90's, the Westins started getting kinda shabby.  I've stayed in one once up in Waltham, MA since the Starwood takeover and it was a good experience.

I haven't stayed in an Embassy Suites in a dog's age but that was my favorite hotel at one time.  I don't know if the Hilton acquisition has been good or bad.

However, I've enjoyed Residence Inn's since way before Marriott.  The Residence Inn in Orlando was a great place to put up the family.  I'd go there again but I think I'll splurge on the Disney Wild Kingdom hotel that overlooks the animals next time we're all there.  My 6 year old daughter loves animals.

Thanks for the heads up! No Starwood hotels for us until they include Fox News.

To all FReepers:

Find hotels that DO carry FNC by using the Fox News Channel Hotel Finder

Well well well. All I have heard lately is how rich white repulicans are so evil from the left's talking points on the Ca. governor Davis recall. Seems to me these hotels obviously cater to rich white lefties as the prices of these places sure ain't for the working guy!

You might want to check out an "Extended Stay America" if there's one where you're going. Nice amenities like a real refrigerator - some genteel noshing makes travel a lot more fun.

Thanks so much, Gracey! :-)

We're driving south to see some relatives from CA who will be in Maryland this weekend. We're also going to check out a couple of Civil War battlefields in VA, and hopefully make it to the Gettysburg Reenactment the following weekend.

I can assure you that at least one of the hotels we'll be staying in for a few nights WILL have Fox News!

"Besides avoiding this chain of hotels, how can we best Freep the chain?"

Click of the mouse! You'd be surprised how effective e-mail is with corporations smaller that government entities.

The first and last time I stayed at a Sheraton was on our honeymoon. I arrived with my bride at their hotel at 10pm and four hours later we still had not checked in because they screwed up our reservation. We spoke to the hotel manager about this and got nothing but a blank stare. When we returned, our travel agent and I sent letters about the situation to that hotel and Sheraton's headquarters and got nothing but form letters in reply.

Please see replies 70 to 72 on this thread. Someone must have a beef with Starwood and is spreading a silly rumor. Most of the Starwood hotels I stay in have FNC - and I have stayed at MANY, MANY of them.

You're right. I'll make sure that calls are made ahead of time verifying Fox News welcome (even if not available). Have reservations in a couple of those hotels already (except french owned)- it would be nice if I did not have to cancel.

To be fair we should note that those contributions come from employees. The FEC reports only show what people who claim them as an employer contributed, not what the corporation gave.

If I were to work for CBS my contribution to the Republicans would show up under CBS because they are my employer. It would not however, reflect on the leanings of CBS and its corporate heads.
