I have this image of Der Bingle waiting outside the Pearly Gates, a pipe in one hand and a six-iron in the other, saying, "Where the hell ya been? We had a 1998 tee time!"

I loved the line by Phyliss Diller on the Big Show, she said
that
"her heart was at Half Mast" I always pegged old Phyliss as a big time Lib, but that line I like......

Perhaps I'm an anomaly to my own generation ("The Sixties"), but I
never quit loving and admiring Bob Hope. Sure, I went gaga over The Beatles, but that didn't detract one bit from my appreciation of Bob Hope's wonderful wit. He had that very special talent of making his audience feel as if he knew them each personally.
That's my one bone of contention with Mark Steyn's otherwise excellent (and obviously well researched) article.

"Off screen, he was the animal, nailing Marilyn Monroe"
This conjures up the trivia question whose answer will never be known: Who will be the last man living who "knew" Marilyn?
To: dennisw
Thanks for posting a great appreciation.

RIP, Mr. Hope. You're a true American hero.

What an image, if some cartoonist doesn't do that one, they missed a great opportunity.

I believe it was Time magazine that named Elvis Presley as Entertainer of the 20th Century. What a disservice by that leftist fish-wrap. Bob Hope owns the title hands down.

The Fox News reporter said that a few weeks ago Bob's wife asked him where he'd like to be buried, and his answer was "Surprise me!"
Sounds like though his body was frail, he retained his spirit right up till the end.
To: GOPrincess
I read on the main thread of his death someone mentioning Arlington National Cemetary because he was given veterans status. I don't know if that is going to be the case but it would be an appropriate tribute in a way. Not sure if there is a humorous place to be buried. Maybe Forest Lawn in LA where a good chunk of Hollywood is but who knows.
