Steyn does justice to the memory of Bob Hope.

A keeper!

Thanks JH2.

When Neil Armstrong's hometown held a parade and celebration honoring the first moon walk, Hope, along with other stars were part of the celebration. I went to see Bob Hope. He was in the car ahead of Armstrong and the crowd went wild, throwing confetti and dropping balloons. By the time Armstrong's car passed through the main part of the parade, there was no confetti or balloons left to throw. That was over thirty years ago. Many veterans were there and it was an experience like no other up to that point in my life. I remember watching all his telecasts in Viet Nam, looking for a familiar face and trying to discern the looks on the faces I did see. He was my link to the military men and women, much more than the media was. I Hope he is offered Arlington National Cemetary because it is fitting he be with those he loved so much and who, in turn, loved him.

Bob Hope was kind to my mother once.

And for that, he deserves it all. But the fact that all report similar kindnesses from this man assures that he is basking in the eternal light of God.

We said goodbye with a highball
Then I got as high as a steeple
But we were intelligent people
No tears, no fuss,
Hooray for us…

That's as ironically sad (or is it just plain sad?) a song verse as I've ever heard.
