Of course it's necessary for POTUS to speak before the Urban League, whether they like him or not!

It was a wonderful speech and if there's fault to find, it is with the networks and cable stations that choose not to air in its entirety.

waste of time.

Totally agree. Bush's speech should have been his middle finger and a quick exit.

Dennis Prager advises conservatives to, "just show up", and let minority communities hear the message. If it's being ignored now, couldn't not doing this be part of the reason?

I wonder when AMERICANS (notice I did NOT say BLACK people, or purple people) will realize this man is EVERYONES President, and is TRULY trying to just pick the brightest and the best based on what is between their ears!!

Instead of USING people to get votes.. he is honestly putting people in positions of power that DO things.

The democrats just use LOUDMOUTH DO NOTHING STATUS QUO people. This man really MEANS something. It is so sad that some people can't see that. They NEVER put the PROOF of their words into anything TANGIBLE. Ron Brown was the only person I can remember in Clintons cabinet. Can anyone do any other "name recognition" right off hand?

I'm so proud of MY President. If we keep him in office another 4 years, perhaps we'll see some MORE progress!!! Now THAT is EQUALITY!!!

I stopped over at lunch time to laugh at the idiotic protestors around the convention center. There were maybe 40 (of course it'll be in the press that 1,000 or more showed up to protest). Of course, not all of them were 'Bush' haters - seen some carrying "No Justice, No Peace - Johnny Gammage", your typical anarchists (I had to keep my hands in my pockets not throttling the imbecile kid running around with the American flag upside down and an anarchy symbol spray painted on it - the punk was smart enough to stay away from the construction workers, and even wore a bandanna to hide his identity).

It was worth a good laugh to see them all going nuts at our CIC being here in the 'burgh. Wish I would've known sooner -I could have made a Freep rally of the losers.

Oh - and why did half the protestors look like hippies, complete with scraggly beards, hair, 60's style dirty clothes? The other half were your punks, anarchists, gay block, etc. Gotta love the dregs of society.

And maybe, just maybe, a few hearts and minds were changed.

It was speeches like this that allowed my to go to several black friends of mine in 2000 and ask them to consider voting for Bush. Some did, most didn't but the point then, as it is now, Bush is talking straight to these communities and he's talking about the real tools that help people become self reliant. There are many years of neglect Bush must overcome but I continue to believe that his message, if heard without party affiliation, would be embraced by the majority.

I loved this speech. As someone concerned about urban areas and the generations lost in a cycle of uncaring/broken communities/families, poor schools, failed government programs, etc. I find the President's focus to be inspiring. The complete lack of partisanship and optimistic eye are the reflection of a man who truly believes in the human spirit and the possibilities when one extends a helping hand.

Thank you for your reply. Sometimes I think the President does things not because they are the politically wisest thing to do, but because they are the right thing to do.

I continue to believe that many of the problems in this nation are because certain people profit from division and hatred. I hope this speech will go some distance in ending some of that.

"Well, at least the Panderer in Chief ..."

Aw, that's awfully cold.

The President promised to be a president to all the people.

I admire his courage.

I just used the Edit- Find tool and couldn't find Jesse or Jackson. Maybe you just had to have been there. :-)

Per Kenneth R. Timmerman, Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson, Regnery, 2002, Jesse Jackson served as paid lobbyist for Charles Taylor with Bill Clinton's blessing.

Now they bleat that Bush should go clean up their mess.

Jesse, do us a favor, crash a plane.
