I always admired him for his work with the USO.That would be enough recognition for any man, but I must tell you, he did so much more for so many other causes, like the March of Dimes, MS, St. Jude Foundation... and the list goes on, and on..

They will make a movie of his life. Ah, geez, I hope they don't. We have a huge archive of movies and specials that showcase the real Bob Hope. Besides, my eyeballs are still healing from watching Alec Baldwin play Jimmy Doolittle in that stinker Pearl Harbor.
To: Hue68
Hue, I think I can say it like Bob would:
Thank you for being there.
Welcome home, brother.

Bob Hope was far and away my family's favorite.Ours as well, listening to those old corny radio programs was the warmest memories of my youth. It seems that our imagination stirred up great pictures and they were so much better than most of the images on TV. What was Gangbusters, and the Green Hornet, if not pure imagination!

...I will never forget about that performance, which I attended - I finally got to shake the hand of the man and thank him for entertaining my father in the Pacific during World War II..I think that says it all.. 3 generations owe him thanks.

"Thank you for sharing that great story!"
Ditto that! I am so sad to that Bob Hope has left us. He was really one who seemed like he could go forever. A real trooper, in all senses of the word!
You see he remembered you, after all that time, now that's a trooper, a real trooper!
To: carlo3b
Thanks, carlo, for the wonderful personal memories.

His priorities were right in visiting the enlisted men first. (My hubby was an officer and I say that!)
What a nice addition to the sweet stories on this thread. :o)

Just a sad stroll down memory lane... Sad, maybe, yet what wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing them with us! Each such thing we hear about just makes him that much more special.
Don't be sad. Bob Hope lived a long, wonderful life. I'm sure his life was just as touched by the people he met as theirs were from meeting him. He's in a wonderful place now, reunited with his old friends....and probably putting on a Heavenly USO Show! :-)

Bob is the last of the from his industry. IMO It's all downhill from here.I hope not, I have to believe that there are millions of unsung heros throughout this small planet, that given the chance would do evactly the same thing as Bob Hope.. another is currently waiting in the wings....
