July 28, 2003 -- RUSH Limbaugh is more popular in some circles than Bill Clinton. When the golf-playing former president bought a house in Chappaqua two years ago, it was reported that several clubs - including Winged Foot in nearby Mamaroneck - had declined to pre-approve him for membership, meaning he would be forced to apply and face the possibility of rejection. "He was basically told, 'Don't bother,' " said one club member. But now Limbaugh, who lives in Palm Beach, Fla., has been proposed for "non-resident privileges" by F. Harlan Batrus, a marathon-running managing director at Lazard Freres. Other Winged Foot members include N.Y. Giants owner Wellington Mara, supermarket king Nick D'Agostino, Giants legend Frank Gifford and Donald Trump. Winged Foot lost two members last year with the deaths of Roone Arledge and Gifford's teammate Kyle Rote.

D'oh!
...and heaven help the poor cart-girl!
This is why Rudy did not get in. I played behind him at Winged Foot last summer. With all the security, he had five carts in his group (and the club discourages carts in general). A typical round at Winged Foot takes around four hours. Rudy took five and a half. It was a complete pain in the a##.
That being said, I'm sure Winged Foot told Clinton to get lost for reasons other than scheduling. All George H Bush would need to do would be to ask, but he's got too much class to do so.
