American companies continue to lead the world in politically correct foolishness. Perhaps General Motors should be the poster child for this stupidity disease. The company's "diversity" initiative includes spending company money to support "affinity groups" that celebrate the "collective mixture of similarities and differences" that make up GM's workforce. However, the company has refused to recognize groups of employees that share a common religious background, while openly supporting at least one affinity group of gay and lesbian employees. The "logic" behind this discrimination is bewildering. One employee won't stand for it any longer and has filed a discrimination complaint against the company.
According to General Motors' web site, the company started officially sanctioning affinity groups in 1999. "Any employees who believe they would benefit from affinity or networking can start a group provided they are able to meet the guidelines and reporting requirements established by GM Diversity Initiatives," according to the web site.
However, according to Brian Akre, G.M.'s director of news relations, as quoted by Cybercast News Service, the company "does not recognize religious or political organizations as company-sponsored affinity groups because of the divisiveness inherent in trying to accomodate their widely disparate views."
Despite that policy, G.M. has no hesitation in sanctioning GM PLUS, a group with the stated mission of supporting gay and lesbian issues. Specifically, the group's stated purpose includes to "promote a specific, written, advertised employment policy that prohibits discrimination based upon sexual orientation," and to "advocate benefit programs that recognize domestic partners and non-traditional families."
Are these not political and even religious goals? Is this not a divisive issue?
However, the company has repeatedly refused to sanction a Christian Employee Network (CEN). In his application for inclusion of CEN in the affinity group program, John Moranski specifically stated that "we are an inter-denominational group and will not promote a particular church or religious denomination in the workplace." The group was formed to coordinate activities of interest to Christian workers, such as a lunchtime prayer session on the National Day of Prayer. Unlike GM PLUS, CEN does not have as a stated or unstated goal the evangelization of co-workers or organized lobbying for changes in laws or company policies.
And yet, the company refuses to acknowledge and support this group of employees with a shared faith because of the "divisiveness" of such a concept.
Moranski filed a discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on June 20.
Drew Gardner is the lawyer representing Mr. Moranski in the matter. Gardner says "We believe that GM's recognition of GM PLUS and denial of the GM Christian Employee Network in light of GM PLUS's stated objective to promote and advocate particular moral and ethical, as well as political, beliefs, is not only hypocritical, but also illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964."
Strong words. And a strong case.
But to make things even more bewildering is what G.M.'s Akre says when his "divisiveness" argument springs an obvious leak. According the the CNS report, Akre claims that G.M.'s affinity groups are limited to those "whose focus is based on primary dimensions of diversity, which are factors that cannot be changed or chosen, such as ethnic background, gender or physical disabilities."
To this Bible-believing Christian, to say that an individual's "sexual orientation" falls into the category of a factor that "cannot be changed or chosen", well, them's fighting words!
And I, for one, am glad that John Moranski and Drew Gardner have taken up the fight!
To this MIT-trained biologist, it's an assertion that has not been scientifically proven. In the absence of such proof, thousands of years of tradition in multiple cultures (condemnation of homosexuality is hardly limited to the Judaeo-Christian tradition) should not be lightly discarded.
I would go so far as to say that GM should be allowed to sponsor, or not sponsor, whatever group it wants. The rest of us are free to show our displeasure with their sponsorship choices by buying a Ford.
That's because the homosexuals have altered the language of the debate by such words as "homophobia" and "sexual orientation".
Rush irritated the crap out of me during a recent discussion of whether judicial nominee Pryor was "homophobic" for rescheduling a Disneyworld visit to avoid "Gay Days". Simply by using that idiotic and newly-coined word he legitimized the argument of Pryor's detractors - namely that Pryor "hated and feared gays". The fact of the matter is Mr. Pryor was simply trying to keep his children from being exposed to open homosexual "displays of affection" such as grabbing crotches, face-sucking, etc.
I'd have done the same. That's not what people take their kids to Disneyworld to see.
Sexual orientation is more properly termed sexual preference, for the behavior is chosen. It is not innate or inborn, no matter how much the homosexuals would like to pretend it is. And while there may be a very few people who actually suffer from homophobia (irrational or extreme fear of homosexuals), most people simply don't want to hear about it or have to look at it. When forced to, the reaction isn't fear, but disgust.
Science has the evidence - given from reformed "Gays".
As evidenced by the natural biological functions of the male/female and as testified to by every other specie on the planet, I'd be least likely to assume homosexuality is anything but a choice to pervert the natural use of one's body.
IOW, science has not proven - nor has one thread of evidence that the initial perversion is anything less than a choice - but much to the contrary. After engaging in the acts frequently, the individual becomes the slave of HABIT.
This is happening in my company as well. We have the Rainbow Initiative, which has resulted in over 70% of the local workforce at least, in being gay.
Problem is, the company is shutting down their entire west coast operation and outsourcing everything to India. The gay employees have filed a class action lawsuit based on anti-discrimination laws. It doesn't matter that everybody (not just gays) either has been or soon will be fired.
Now management is tap dancing on the head of a pin to show that only gay Indian offshore workers will be hired to replace them.
Incredible.
Not only have thousands left the homosexual lifestyle, there is no biological or genetic evidence to support homosexuality. The facts support, overwhelmingly, the major factor in determining homosexuality is environment.

Again, environment is the key factor in determining homosexuality. Here's some links on genetics and environment

So, according to General Motors, being a Christian is inherently divisive and political. Being gay is not. I always wondered how 2% of the population (homosexuals) amassed so much political power.
Diversity in and of itself promotes "widely disparate views." The very root Latin meaning of diversity is "apartness." When you stereotype folks according to the skin color/race, you are not truly dealing with the diversity of folks who are distinct one from another. You're guilty of lumping folks into rainbow categories 'cause there's only 7 colors on their rainbow scale.
That is incredible. Sheesh.
You may also be interested to know that the anti-homosexual movement plays a prominent role in the national so called "cool cities" initiative. They add a certain attraction to the large cities don't you know? Here in Michigan, our "cool" governor jenny mulhern has designated Detroit as a "cool" city, and named its mayor, Kwame (the Hip Hop mayor) Kilpatrick, the state's first cool cities mayor. Mayor hip hop celebrated by buying a larger diamond stud earring to replace the boulder he was sporting.
