July 25, 2003 -- Months before she overdosed on medication in her parents' home, Kobe Bryant's young accuser reportedly overdosed in her college dorm, it was revealed yesterday.

News of yet another hospitalization could help Bryant's defense team cast doubt on the 19-year-old woman's credibility.

Pinging all rapetards, your victim is a 'drug taking, multiple suicide attempting, mentally unstable teen'. Which gives Kobe and me every right to rape her and her ilk!

You forgot to finish the thought, so I did. :)

In my defense, we don't know what the facts are except that she is a bad actor (nutjob). Wait a minute, we don't really know this. All we have is some people who claim to be friends of hers saying something, not under oath and boom the rape charge is a false allegation. In her defense there are several friends that say she would not make it up either. Here is what has been hinted over the past few days about the allegations leading to his guilt. Don't forget that Kobe is moving heaven and earth to keep the evidence secret. And I asked you Kobe worshippers, "WHY?" Also, he wants the evidence sealed but is using his slimball lawyers and detectives to slander this women. If you think this information is coming out randomly than you are a fool. 1. She was physically battered, bruises defensive wounds. The prosecution is expected to present some physical evidence that will make us squirm. 2. She ran immediately down from his room upset and crying and told hotel employees she was raped. 3. Hotel security came to his room because someone called complaining of a loud ruckus. 4. The hotel room was in disarray. 5. She had torn clothing and it appears buttons were ripped off her clothes inside the hotel room. The crime lab said there was plenty of evidence recovered at the scene of the crime. 6. The 19-year-old woman who accused Kobe Bryant of sexually assaulting her had "visible evidence" of the alleged attack a week later. 7. Were the body guards in the room? Who knows, but the DA was considering false imprisonment charges. Last but not least, my favorite response to you guys that love this rapist thug. I can not work up the energy to feel sorry for him. Even if he didn't rape her, he is a major league idiot. 1. He had unprotected sex with a stranger he just met. He did this in front of his three body guards. Everything that I read, states that the bodyguards were in the room when room service was called. In fact, room service was for the four of them. They all had to give police statements. They followed him in a cab to the hospital and acted very strange according to the cabbie. 2. He possibly exposed his wife to several STDs or maybe even a death sentence through AIDS. For all he knew about her, she could have been a hooker in some large city servicing every man in a twenty block area, then returned to her home town to recuperate. 3. He exposed the girl to a possible pregency. This is all the world needs, is another forgotten and uncare for bastard child. His primary thought was that if he was unlucky maybe he could throw a few dollars at it (the baby) to make it go away. 4. He gambled his future earnings, just getting caught in the act of infidelity and tarnishing his reputation without the rape allegation could cost him millions of dollars. 5. He drags his wife out to face public ridicule and humiliation during his strange press conference declaring his adultry. He is a major class jerk just for this alone. Actually the list goes on... But, just so you know where I stand, I have a slight feeling that he did rape her, but no proof (his conduct in the cab leaving the hospital, torn clothing and his crying statement on TV rings false).

Sorry, Reg is wrong on this one.

Kobe is going to get off because this gal is a nutcase and the prosecutor was too stupid to see it. You may not like it but there it is.

In light of this, I can't comprehend how a justice system could be considered fair when it wouldn't allow the displaying of evidence that the accuser had a history of self-harm.

So this exonerates Bryant?
I think it condemns his judgement even further.
Let's say the girl is a true mental case -- why is a married "family man" introducing her into his life with something he calls a consensual sexual encounter? Does he give no thought whatsoever to his selfish actions and the possible consequences?
What if this disturbed girl had committed suicide right in his room after having sex with him?
What if the media scrutiny pushes her over the edge?
How does an unstable, depressed history make it unlikely she was raped? Doesn't it increase her vulnerablility to sexual assault?

I find this "news" to be dangerous to the hundreds of thousands of young women who take anti-depressants. Does that mean their credibility is destroyed and they are now fair game for rapists because no such victim would dare report the crime after this case?

It amazes me how many "best friends" this woman has..and how many of them are willing to publicly trash her.

I'd be ineterested to know how these "best friends" are being approached and what questions are asked of them...

Yes. If I were on either side of a case like this, reporters would have a difficult time getting negative testimony from acquaintances, much less friends.

Plus, I don't think it's all "trashing." If you read some of the quotes, they're simply factual(as they see it) statements. This latest bomb is a combination of people from her dorm(one only conceded the basic fact but said no more) and the POLICE CHIEF.

Maybe there's a reason.

A woman who is (allegedly) raped does not have her past history of instability put on display.

Sure she does, especially if the crux of the defense argument is that she's actually lying about it. This is not a situation where the girl was allegedly raped by a complete stranger while she was leaving work. There was clearly some familiarity between the two of them prior to the alleged incident.

So, the entire case may hinge on credibility. The defense has every right to assail the accuser's. And as I've said on numerous threads, I have absolutely no idea who is telling the truth. But I love speculating.

However they will not be admitted in court. A woman who is (allegedly) raped does not have her past history of instability put on display.

It will too.

This is going to be a he-said-she-said. So the credibility of both the accuser and the accused is what will be on trial. All of it will be in the trial.

That is, if she doesn't just drop the case first. Her credibility is crumbling by the day.

We aren't Kobe worshippers. There is talk among lawyer-pundits of an out-of-court settlement. That's the payola for this woman. Even if money isn't her bag, she may do it because she's crazy. Why do terrorists do what they do? They're just crazy and crazy people do crazy things for reasons no reasonable person can wrap their minds around.

Following are some of the high-profile athletes who have in the last several years been linked to -- and in most cases exonerated from -- allegations of sexual misconduct.

Kirby Puckett
Oct. 18, 2002: Charged with false imprisonment, fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and fifth-degree assault
April 10, 2003: Found not guilty on all counts

Jerome Bettis
Aug. 21, 2002: Accused of sexual assault
Oct. 16, 2002: Prosecutors say Bettis will not be charged

Darrell Russell
Feb. 1, 2002: Arrested on suspicion of participating in the gang rape of a woman he dated
Sept. 12, 2002: All charges dropped

Mike Tyson
Sept. 26, 2001 and Dec. 28, 2001: Investigated on two separate sexual assault claims
Feb. 21, 2002: Prosecutors announce Tyson will not be charged

Mark Chmura
May 15, 2000: Charged with third-degree sexual assault; on June 22, 2000, a child enticement charge was added
Feb. 4, 2001: Found not guilty on both charges

Len Dykstra
Oct. 1, 1999: Charged with sexual battery
Nov. 30, 1999: Charges dropped

Curtis Enis
May 30, 1998: Named in a sexual assault complaint filed in Irving, Texas
Aug. 17, 1998: Complaint dropped (he was never arrested or charged)

Juwan Howard and Chris Webber
April 1998: Accused of sexual assault
May 22, 1998: A grand jury decides not to indict either man; Howard countersued, won $100,000 in damages and donated the award to a rape crisis center in Washington

Dave Meggett
Feb. 27, 1998: Charged with sexual assault
June 26, 1998: Charges withdrawn

Cornelius Bennett
Sept. 9, 1997: Pleaded guilty to misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct stemming from a May 18, 1997 incident in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo; served 35 days in jail and later received counseling under the NFL's program

Jake Plummer
May 28, 1997: Charged with felony sexual abuse
June 27, 1997: Struck a plea bargain and received two years probation; also fined $1,020 and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service

Michael Irvin and Erik Williams
Dec. 29, 1996: Accused of aggrevated sexual assault
Jan. 10, 1997: Police say that the accuser had recanted her story and that no charges would be filed

Jose Mesa
Dec. 27, 1996: Charged with rape, gross sexual imposition and felonious assault
April 9, 1997: Acquitted of all charges

Kobe may or may NOT have an army of detectives. We don't know, you seem a bit too confident of that. You think reporters won't find something from Bryant's past, if it's there?

Problem is, you can bitch that these shadowy legions of detectives are leading the press to the story, but why the heck did the POLICE CHIEF admit to this story??! Why are scads of her friends/acquaintances saying "yeah she OD'd" "yeah she craves attention." Whether some allegations are true or not is irrelevant. You telling me that all of us FReepers if in a similar case would have all of our acquaintances leaking this info, if indeed we had it to find in our past?

GSC

You're not allowed to post stuff that would lend credibility to us wicked "Kobots!" That's wrong and it's smearing the accuser!

Jesus, some of you folks are desperate to see this guy get "his." I know why SOME of the women refuse to even entertain skepticism, and I have a feeling that there are others who have hard-ons for athletes, especially black athletes, but damn!

Oh, don't forget other names! David Cone, CLYDE FRIGGIN DREXLER(that case went nowhere) and Derrick Coleman also.
All exonerated, as far as I know.

I heard Mark Levin yesterday. He said rape shield laws would keep her two ODs out of the courtroom. He said he would be surprised if Colorado didn't have such rape shield laws.

The DA knew about these ODs and other unsavory material. I doubt he would be proceeding if these ODs are going to be allowed in court

Don't forget in the Bettis case they're looking into a potential blackmail scam.

And then there's the California case, with less famous men, but nevertheless the woman filed 8-9 rape claims throughout the state. She and her scumbag boyfriend made 500Gs of that. She only got one year in prison, somehow the guy was sent away for more. And these were cases where there was no evidence. She just met them and said "i'll file sexual assault charges against you unless you give me cash"

Or the woman from the Tailhook scandal. Why would she lie? Oh because she was in a friggin ORGY and didn't want her FIANCE finding out she was a disgusting whore.

It's going to be all over. They'll have a hard time finding a juror who hasn't heard it all long before the trial.

What is the prosecutor going to do, ask the jury pool if they were aware she had a history of OD's and promiscuous sex?

So in fact, nothing in your mind can even remotely point to another possibility other than his guilt?

So if I dated someone unstable, and broke up with her after making the mistake of sleeping with her, and she files rape charges, I deserve that? I'm showing "poor judgment?" Is a murder victim showing poor judgment by walking home from school?

RECENT mental/emotional problems combined with some other stuff we're hearing DOES undermine her. The other thing is, if she was serious about suicide, she'd have done it by now. Otherwise her "attempts" are attention/victim setups.

If a man has a history of violent behavior towards women, even a mentally unbalanced woman with other evidence in her favor will still be believed. But when, as of yet, there's no evidence of ANY prior misdeed(violent-sexual) by the accused, you're damn right instability will undermine the credibility of the accused.

Basically, you're saying that there's no such thing as a false accusation(though there obviously is) and that there's no such thing as more or less credible witnesses or accusers.

Let us pray your sons never meet up with these circumstances.

How does an unstable, depressed history make it unlikely she was raped? Doesn't it increase her vulnerablility to sexual assault?

It certainly does, someone like this is very likely to put themselves at more risk of rape by getting into situations they shouldn't be in. Going into a stranger's hotel room is pretty stupid but also it can change her perception of reality too. He deserves what he's getting because sex with strangers is not smart and he knew what he was risking ---his big endorsements and his family.

He said rape shield laws would keep her two ODs out of the courtroom. He said he would be surprised if Colorado didn't have such rape shield laws.

Colorado has rape shield laws which protect against revealing the alleged victim's past sexual history unless it has specific relevance to this case. (i.e. The allegations that she slept with a celebrity look-alike at American Idol [not allowed] versus prior sexual activity with this defendant [which would be allowed].) Use of the overdoses to discredit her credibility would not usually fall under the Rape Shield but would likely be the subject of a motion to exclude them stating that they're probitive value is outweighed by their prejudice to the alleged victim. That is a separate matter for the judge.
