"Democratic Nationalists" supporting Traficant's bid pledge electoral victory against ultra-left Democratic Socialists invasion of Democratic party as well as "free trade" economic treachery of the Democratic Leadership Council.
On one year anniversary of Congressman's wrongful expulsion from Congress, candidate approved "Draft Traficant" Committee Files with FEC in Washington.
July 24, 2003
In a stunning political move by his supporters, authorized "Draft Traficant" leaders file official organizational papers with Federal Elections Commission in Washington on Monday.
Draft Committee pledges "Candidate's Movement" supporting Traficant throughout next year in Democratic primaries nationwide. "We will fight against the Democratic Socialists and DLC in every state in the union next year," Traficant supporters declared on Monday. "We will be sponsoring candidates in numerous Senatorial, Congressional, and statewide offices who will coordinate their campaigns in support of Jim and each other."

DRAFT TRAFICANT FOR PRESIDENT? BEAM ME UP! A Politics1 exclusive: Former US Congressman Jim Traficant (D-OH) is currently serving an 8-year federal prison sentence, following his 2002 conviction on various corruption and racketeering charges. That fact has not deterred a group from filing FEC paperwork this week establishing the Draft Traficant 2004 campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination. The group -- which also launched a Draft Traficant website -- vows to "Free Traficant for a Free America." The zany Traficant is best remembered for his bad clothes and hair (which turned out to a really bad rug) ... and the wild rants he formerly delivered on the House floor. Running for re-election from jail as an Independent last year, Traficant still captured over 27,000 votes. He also briefly ran for President in 1988, touting himself then as "The Rustbelt Candidate." There are no signs that Traficant has any tie to the new draft committee -- but you just know he's gotta love the attention!

The Democrats have a long tradition of having their best politicians in jail.

So, he's in jail? He's still probably their best candidate.

Now here's somebody that can give Al Sharpton a run for his money! He's got the hair. He's got the bad clothes. He's got the mouth. And he's totally nuts.

Wanting to elect a convicted criminal demorat (redundant?) to Congress. Sorta fits, somehow.
I suppose he would have his district office in Cell Block D.

We should encourage this campaign. Not only was Traficant a fine Congressman who got a raw deal, but he could attract thousands of blue-collar votes that would otherwise go to Dick Gephardt (who is the only RAT who would have a chance of beating Bush in 2004). Go, Jim, go!

Oh, no... We wouldn't want that. Traficant voters would probably go to Dubya. I'd still vote for the guy if he were in Congress, to tell the truth. :-)

Why don't these Traficantites wise up and join us? If not for the trade issues I guess they would, but still there are anit-free trade Repubs.

Traficant is the coolest. I miss his one minute speeches and those wonderful jabs he took at the Democratic leadership.

Well, maybe they'd vote for Bush, maybe not. But obviously Traficant wouldn't get the RAT nomination, so Bush would never lose a single vote to Traficant. I mean, I don't think Bush is running in the RAT presidential primaries. : )
