Exposing the strain of a 22-day budget impasse, Gov. Gray Davis' finance director exploded in a crowded Capitol hallway Tuesday, accusing "extreme forces" in the Legislature of thwarting approval of a state spending plan.
"We need a budget! Send us a budget!" Steve Peace bellowed at Republican Assemblyman John Campbell, confronting him outside a briefing room as a GOP news conference came to a close.

Assembly GOP leader Dave Cox, R-Fair Oaks, center, leads Assemblyman John Campbell, R-Irvine, left, away Tuesday after state Finance Director Steve Peace, right, yelled out: "Send us a budget." The outburst came as senators reportedly moved closer toward a budget deal.

""Nobody has spent more time personally pushing on me and everybody else associated in the Capitol to try to get a budget on time," Peace said, choking back tears."
Translation:
"I am not a failure. I just work for Davis. Its not my fault."

Doesn't Peace's wife sit on the recycling commission or committe at a salary of $100,000 per year? I think she's the one who represents the public and admitted she knew nothing about recylcing.
Fire her, let her retrun her past salary and then let her VOLUNTEER her services to such an important enviro cause.
Does anyone know if it is his wife?

Open Mic Catches California Democrats (AP) - Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain. Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans. A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings. Hey Norm~
They played the actual confrontation this morning on KRLA 870. LOL! It'll be Steve Peace that has to face the "pinstripes" from Wall Street when they come in September to collect on their bonds. These guys won't give a RATs a$$ where the money comes from and if the state doesn't pay up Calif.'s bond rating will tank.

"A few members of our caucus had a bull session yesterday that happens every day on both sides of the aisle," said Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, who was not at the Monday meeting. "Unf Fortunately, they were in a room where the microphone was on."

Peace was a chief player in getting California to the brink (if not over the brink) of financial collapse; he was the author of the insane so-called "power deregulation" bill passed in 1996 (and, unfortunately, signed by that previous governor,RINO Pete Wilson)that set the stage for a phoney, trumped-up power crisis. That was the seminal issue that caused that economically illiterate Gov Dufus to "go nuts" buying power at inflated rates. Ironically, it was Peace's lunacy that has led to the RECALL. Shed tears over that, Peace, you ignorant moron!

Steve Peace is a complete idiot. As author of California's failed energy deregulation bill he has no right or expertise to be anyone's financial director. It's like klinton being put in charge of women's rights. This is yet another example of gray davis' incompetence.

Cheryl Peace is one of the most highly-paid soccer moms you'll ever meet. The I-Team was there last week for her first day as a member of the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Its mission is to reduce the amount of trash winding up at landfills by encouraging recycling.
Dan Noyes: "What expertise in waste management do you bring to the board?"
Cheryl Peace: "You know, I really don't bring any. I was appointed by the Senate rules as a public representative. I was not supposed to have any expertise in this field."
Cheryl Peace got the job that pays $117,818 a year plus benefits because she is the wife of Governor Davis' top economic adviser, Steve Peace.
The outgoing board chairman defends her appointment.
Dan Eaton, departing board member: "Because of her involvement in the past and the community and her just intimate involvement with her husband she probably is one of the more qualified members to come to this board in some time."

I really wonder if any conservative type should get into this situation. Just bk the state, close the government. The people hurt the most will be the elites that suck off of the workers & the parasites that leach off of the government. Wait for a revolution & then install the conservatives (if there really are any of the those types around).

Thank You! I knew I'd read about this outrageous, egregious waste of taxpayer money and blatant nepotism.
I'm going to forward this to info to KSFO.

Nice pink shirt there, Stevie. Really a manly color. Huh.
Seriously......I heard John & Ken's show being promoed (?) this morning and they said by 5:00 this afternoon Davis would be in the fetal position.
Kind of a nice mental image isn't it?
