WEST MILFORD - A leader of the Million Mom March is coming to town Thursday to speak to parents about the consequences of keeping a gun at home.
Joyce Sooy, joyces3@excelonline.com president of the Bergen/Passaic chapter of the Million Mom March, will speak on the topic, "Can We Prevent Gun Violence?" at 7:30 p.m. Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church on Union Valley Road.
Sooy led a bus caravan from Bergen County on Mother's Day in 2000 to attend the Million Mom March in Washington, D.C. Thousands of mothers around the nation gathered to call on lawmakers to enact stricter gun laws.
The discussion is co-sponsored by the church and http://www.highlandspeaceaction.org/ Highlands Peace Action, a group of citizens who support grass-roots efforts toward peace.

Joyce Sooy of Emerson was among those taking part in the anti-gun gathering. She said gun control has been an important issue to her ever since her adult son, Eric, killed himself with his brother-in-law's gun while suffering from depression 10 years ago. She said gun control is an important step toward preventing suicide.

"We don't believe him," said Joyce Sooy, a Republican from Emerson Township."Now he's trying to backtrack and appeal to the moderates."

Yep, and the doctors are doing it too asking YOUR children if YOU have a gun in YOUR house. Many doctors have quit their membership with the AMA.

I have a serious problem with ANY pedophiles. If it were up to me I would have them all executed, if proven guilty, regardless of the religion they hide behind.
To: JohnnyZ
I'm not a bit pompous. I just have a serious problem with allowing any organized group of people of any religion to terrorize/abuse children and then try to cover the scandals up all the way to the top of the chain of command. The bastards are abusing mostly Catholic children, whom ought to be protected; I don't care WHAT the perverts do to you.
Christ said "...suffer the little children to come unto me..." - I guess to be abused by the clergy and then ignored by people like you, who view the power structure as more important.
Serious physical and sexual abuse of children should be a capitol offense, religion be damned.
To: utahagen
When there is no one, orthodox CatholIC teaching on an issue, the issue is purely political and should not be preached about from the pulpit. "Political" has nothing to do with it and is a misuse of the term. "Things not related to Catholic belief", if you will.

You obviously get what I was trying to say I didn't at first because you can't communicate clearly. Then you clarified half your mistake and I corrected you again. You're welcome.

I think it is insulting as a Catholic to see any church used to prevent gun ownership. It is so ignorant and as you say, where is all their attention that should be on Catholic politicians with a public abortion agenda.
I think a portion of the Church are just mind numbed idiots based on this kind of stuff.
Disappoints me to no end.

Gangster Rap Music, Abortion, and parentless children,
contribute to violence, more than any handgun.
The attack on morality in this country, is more central
to the problem than a gun.
The gun is a weapon if the user wants it to be.

But Joyce Sooy would probably be in favor of guns if used as an abortion tool.
To: Coleus
We need to protect our children from the above pervert ministers. Let's hope the Protestants clean house. Our children deserve it.
Unlike the Roman practice, Protestant denominations (and Baptists/evangelicals/charismatics) do not transfer pedophiles to fresh territories where they will molest again. Until they were caught and exposed and sued, this was a routine administrative practice by Roman bishops.
Please post the links to articles which document non-Roman churches transferring known pedophiles from one church to another.
To: Coleus
How to prevent child rape by priests?? Stay out of the church. Works every time. Abstinance. We practice that at my house.
To: Paul Atreides
"She said gun control is an important step toward preventing suicide."
I wonder what would have happened in NYC earlier this week? Since they have all sorts of GUN CONTROL (what ever the hell that is) the shooter shouldn't, no... couldn't have had a gun in the first place. But since that was obviously not the case, what would have happened if the cop had not been allowed a weapon?
Oh, only the police can have guns? Ya...sure. Does the term dictatorship ring a familar note?
