If rape were decriminalized, women would behave differently. They probably would be reluctant to go into hotel rooms with strange men. It might lead to more decorous, demure and lady-like behavior on the part of the women and I think that would be an improvement.

Of course, that's only the half of it. Probably a lot of women would suffer if rape were decriminalized because a lot of men would change their behavior -- some fairly decent chaps would begin behaving in indecent ways. What's to stop them? Which leads to the next change:

Concealed carry for women and changes in self-defense laws. This would change men's behavior. Would a man go into a hotel room with a strange woman? Nope. She could just shoot him and claim attempted rape. Lotta wackos in the world, and men would not take too many chances. This would lead to more gentlemanly behavior on the part of the men-folk and I think that would be an improvement.

Neal Boortz proposed yesterday, because of the high percentage of rape allegations that are false that a law should be passed that if you accuse someone of rape falsely, you go to jail for the amount of time the wrongly accused would have served if convicted.

I like the idea and fully support it. And I would extend it to hate crimes as well.

You're joking, right? If so, it's a bad joke. If not, you've got a major screw loose.

I heard on Fox that Kobe asked the girl to bring something to his room in her capacity as an employee-not unusual for resort employees to do this after hours. We have time shares and the resorts bend over backwards to accomodate us. Who knows?

Good idea. Let's get rid of all laws. We can start carrying guns. Form gangs. Kill or be killed. We don't need no stinking badges.

'If rape were decriminalized, women would behave differently.'

This comment is sociopathic. Go on down the slippery slope - if crime were decriminalized, its vicims would behave differently. If murder were decriminalized, its victims would behave differently. The victim is at fault, and you're the Uday-wannabe who gets to have your way with other human beings. This is a subhuman mentality that accounts for so much sick, inhuman behavior in today's sad world, it's hard to put into words. It's an indescribable insensitivity toward human life. I hope you didn't truly intend to be this cold. It's very disturbing to see this mentality in this forum.

VERY FEW women would go to hotel rooms of men they don't know, and to make a statement that places all women in this idiotic category, and then makes them all fair game for such violent, destructive behavior (happily decriminalized for you, in the event this was really a rape) is unconscionable.

This Kobe/teenybopper episode seems to be bringing out the predator in a lot of comments here. I generally enjoy the intelligent bantering I find out here, but when it descends into this kind of evidently revenge-ridden baggage-laden vitriol, I feel very disillusioned. I expect better from you GUYS. I enjoy you guys. But this - I just hope I don't see too much more of this out here. Maybe we can get back to issues that don't descend into caveman club-waving, huh?

If rape were decriminalized, women would behave differently

Back in the old, pre-NOW days, there was a concept known as "asking for it". Maybe it's time to return to that concept...if a girl willingly goes to that hotel room in the middle of the night, it's bad judgement or stupidity, but why is the legal system involved?

That being said, I think Kobe Bryant is a jerk. Since we don't live in that era anymore, I'll be a cynic. The girl "struck gold"...I bet she could've gotten a nice financial settlement if she shut up. It makes me think she really is deranged.

Ahhhh...reasoning from the premises of today is just so weird.

Nope. Forgot the root of the problem. We aren't teaching morals to young men ......or young women..........any more. No no no................no Ten Commandments. Bulls**t excuses for mainstream churches pastored by drooling liberals who wouldn't know Job from John. Removal of all references to God in anything resembling a public institution. Boy Scouts under attack; have to allow rump rangers as Scoutmasters. An entertainment media and advertising world hell bent to convince us all that EVERYone is getting laid but us. A thriving industry in the dismemberment of babies in their mama's wombs.......with shrieking feminists and go**amned Congressidiots protecting them to their stinking, dying breaths.

You destroy the moral underpinnings of a society, you cheapen the lives therein. This wench is lucky she was only raped (if she was at all). Guns aren't the ultimate answer; it's the hearts and minds. God has just GOT to be losing His patience with us........and I don't blame Him one bit.

Sorry, CCG, but your theory is rooted in fantasy, not reality.

I know several women who were raped, assaulted, or had someone attempt to assault them (myself included). Their perpetrators were all someone they knew, not strangers.

True story: back in college, an idiot blew a red light, totaled my car, and landed me in the hospital with a damaged knee, whiplash, and mild concussion. Hobbling around with a leg brace was no picnic, and I wedged a borrowed car into a tight spot because Mr./Ms. Porsche had to use two spaces to park.

When I came out, security had towed MY car. Mr./Ms. Porsche was gone. Big deal, I had a job and was willing to pay the fine. Problem was, security was on the other side of the campus and I had trouble putting any weight on my leg. An acquaintance from class offered to carry my books and then to drive me over to security.

A real gentleman, right? That's what I thought. Boy, was I wrong!

After paying the fine and waiting to get my vehicle out of impound, I put my hand on his arm and thanked him for helping me out. He took this as permission to slam me against the wall and begin mauling me. I fought back, punching him and cursing him, and he beat a hasty retreat.

Stupid fool that I was, I didn't march right into the Security Office and report it. I was too sickened and stunned and wanted to go home, so I got in my car and sought the comfort of my parents, both of whom were horrified and enraged, wanting me to alert the campus.

Just a few weeks later, Mr. Elfreako jumped someone else, who did have the good sense to report it.

I regret only two things: first, that I didn't kick the living heck out of that freak and leave him in a pool of his own blood, and second, that I didn't report it immediately.
