If the cartoonist had ANY balls, he would have replaced Politics with Demorats.

Ummmm, I guess you missed it, but the cartoonist nails it exactly as to what is going on. That is a pro-Bush cartoon(though I guess there is a slight possibility that it wasn't intended that way, if the cartoonist was really, really dumb).

Okay, our President has been made to appear very ugly and monkeyfaced (note to lib cartoonists: monkeys are SMART) but how many cartoons have we seen of BJ Clinton that are comparable in their caricature? Very many. Did we object? No. Did we laugh? Yes. If the Secret Service is concerned about this CARTOON (a form of FREE SPEECH as provided by the First Amendment) they're being silly.

Other than that, it may be a bit over my head as to how it may be interpreted. I see a "spoof" on a famous photo from the Vietnam war; on the General/shooter's shirt, I see the word POLITICS; in the background to the right I see the word IRAQ. So I deduce the cartoonist means the political atmosphere of the war in Iraq is becoming another Vietnam (quagmire) and it will be the "death" of Dubya's presidency.

While I don't agree with the author/cartoonist's point of view and don't think it's the least bit funny, I think he or she has the right to draw the garbage and the Los(t) Angeles Times has the right to print it. Wise Californians will use it as birdcage liner or a disposable pooper scooper, being certain to feature the cartoon face up in order to ensure whichever droppings reach their target.

That's not a man killing President Bush. That's POLITICS! It's a little tool political cartoonists have always used called SYMBOLISM. The message of this cartoon is, simply, POLITICS IS BAD - BUSH IS INNOCENT - BUT POLITICS WANTS TO KILL HIM DESPITE HIS GOOD NATURE. They're doing everything but strapping him to the cross, for God's sake. Learn what the cartoon says before you attack it! Forgive the huge size, but I think it needs said.

I wasn't here back then, but what was the tone of FR when there were shooting targets that looked like Bill Clinton?

Show a cartoon of someone holding a revolver to Hillary's head and watch what happens.

Ramirez is saying that the politics of the situation is killing Bush, not the reality. I think he intended this reaction. If you all have seen his anti-bubba and Hillary cartoons, you would know that his politics are not what many here think they are.

The street execution was complicated. So are the politics in Iraq. The cartoon can be interpreted in multiple ways. I don't know exactly what the cartoonists attention exactly was, but it works. It makes me think about the politics of image, media over the reality on the ground.

I do know that in no way is he suggesting that the president be assasinated. He is making an argument about the media, politics, and the situation on the ground in Vietnam, being a morass, and that Iraq could be turning that way.

I am a bit dissapointed in some people here. This is a thought provoking cartoon. We are used to having everything handed to us in a spoon fed, third grade level manner, and this cartoon is provocative, and should be analyzed instead of the immediate calls for shutting down the L.A. Times, whose editorial board this guy tends to disagree with in the first place.

The reference to the 35 year-old LIFE Magazine cover is going to be too obscure for most Americans. Frankly, I can't believe that the Secret Service is concerned about this.

Political cartoons are supposed to provoke thought and discussion.

On those grounds alone, Mr. Ramirez has succeeded.

BTW, don't you hate people who useGIANT fonts to compensate for their lack of cogent arguments?

C'mon. This cartoon is actually pro-Bush.

It would, however, have been more accurate and to the point if the word on the flak jacket had said "Democrats" instead of "Politics".

Ramirez also could have substituted a donkey's head instead of the original police chief's head.

Poor taste? Maybe.

Accurate? Certainly.

Depicting the political intention of the smear campaign against Bush? Absolutely.

This is a GREAT cartoon and gets to the heart of the matter in a clever visual. Ramirez is a genius!

The Secret Service should go after real threats and not conservative cartoonists depicting the despicable political agenda of the Democrats.

My major problem with this cartoon is the seed it may plant in the heads of 'useful-idiot-John Hinckley Jr's' out there who may start fantasizing about what "International Heroes" they will become when they shoot the President.

Could someone help me understand the process here. Do the cartoonists do any drawing that comes to mind and then make a portfolio available to choose from?

Do the papers order a cartoon with a certain theme? Doonsberry has been in our local rag for eons and only recently did the add Mallord Fillmore.

There is no doubt in my mind the liberal media is trying to plant assassination ideas in people's heads.
