I see the gun, I see our presidents head. That's against the law.

Yea and some violent lunatic who doesn't get it, who wants his face all over MSNBC and FNC and doesn't know who this cartoonist is, may not care about the law.

And there are people who don't think the left is secretly in support of a Saddam victory. THEY ARE!

Interesting that the cartoonist added a mosque in the background to make sure the viewer understands that Iraq will be Bush's demise like Vietnam was Johnson's.

AND ULTIMATELY NIXON WHO BORE THE BRUNT OF THE PANDEMIC PARANOIA. THOSE EARS ARE RATHER NIXOINIAN

My real interest in in political speech and I am not kidding when I advocate that there be NO restrictions on that.

How is shouting 'Fire' in a crowded theater, which you think should be legal as stated earlier, political speech?

As for the other questions, I know what the current legal status of them is. I want to know if you personally think that they are okay.

Should people be allowed to post classifed material?

Should they be allowed to threaten politicians with death?

Should NAMBLA reps be allowed to pass out pamphlets to children in playgrounds?

All three examples are just politically relevant speech, so I don't imagine you would have any reservations. Am I wrong?

No, I'm saying the dumbing down (really a lack of history in this situation) has started to affect national security to the extent that this is inflammatory. Given that there are folks who have bumper stickers saying nasty things (Impeach Bush was the one I saw recently) who's to say this wouldn't trigger some kook to do the unthinkable.

It might also be the case that it requires not just "thinking through," but LEARNING

Oh Good Lord. If his work requires people to take classes in order to understand it, maybe he should switch to sculpture.

I think Ramirez would be a happier man tomorrow if he'd decided to keep this one for his private collection and submitted another image along the same character-assassination theme.

Is that so hard to get ?

Yes, his cartoons so far this year have been anti Islamic fundamentalist, anti france, anti Yassir, anti Gray Davis, and anti democrat, as well as anti hollywood. When you put his entire body of work up in context, it helps explain this cartoon. Witness the dixie chicks cartoon of his that I put up.

I have seen Viet Nam written/typed as Vietnam for quite a few years and recently began using the "Vietnam" version to correct what I thought was my own error. I believe yours is the first "in print" separation I've seen in a long time. Do you suppose it's an "era" thing? Or perhaps a "Hoosier" thing? :o)

That cartoon of justice is incredible. Ya know, I get the idea that a lot of people also don't get why the lady holding the scales of justice is blindfolded...

No, it is NOT a "man" killing the President. Can you not see that it is "Politics" killing the President? Perhaps you should have your eyes examined, since you obviously missed that minor point from the cartoon.

I think I recognize the facial expression
from one of the scenes in the Grinch.
What's that all about?

It's a brilliant work in its genre.

As for having patience, I really wasn't trying to be demeaning when I first asked "Want me to walk it through?" but when I hit preview I thought, "Hmmm, that could be seen as a little haughty," but I figured it was so slight it wouldn't make any difference.

I wish I had been more patient.

I just hope people will look at this guy's body of work, and understand the context.

I think you'll see, it will work out like that. This guy just upped his viewership by many percentage points.

Obvious you do not know the full story behind that photograph.

Look it up and then defend the cartoon.

I agree with an earlier post, if it has to be explained, it is not very good.

You can post other cartoons all day long. I will accept that Ramirez is not your usual leftist.

It doesn't change my opinion about the cartoon. Initially, most people who have never see the photo will think it is pro-assassination. Those who DO know the photo might get it (as did I) but the image is so shocking that whatever point he is trying to make (and I think there is debate in that as well) is lost.

In addition, he will be visited by the Secret Service just as the kids who send e-mails that "Bush should be shot," are. If he didn't know this, as a amous LA cartoonist, I am amazed. I know it here in the central Indiana suburbs.

Oh wait, your right. Proposing the assasination of our president, could in no way be confused with yelling fire in a crowded theather.

Great statement and I agree!

He could have put Democrats or Media on the back of the gunman but of course the editors would ax that.

But then the audience would have got the message easier I guess!
