WE'VE ALL BEEN HOSED BY THE N.O.W. GANG: Why I Feel Sorry for Kobe

Posted on 07/18/2003 6:47:40 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.

Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.

Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"

At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

Well, not with the glue part but...

This young lady is going to soon learn the meaning of the term "Hardball", and to what lengths defense attorneys will go.

Every peck on the cheek she's ever participated in since grade school is about to be exposed.

She's toast. If she's mis-accusing Kobe, she'll rue the day she decided to extort.....if she was raped, she's about to have many more sleepless nights.

Men know what men are capable of. And (flame away) women know what women are capable of.

I bet I just made a ton of new friends on FR with that one.

In this case, Kobe is charged with 3rd degree criminal sexual assault. One thing I know first hand as a fact: Snapping a girl's bra strap can be prosecuted as 3rd degree criminal sexual assault and a person can do considerable time for it. The world has gone crazy.

I heard on one of the shows that she had just got off work, she worked the front desk. I don't know how accurate that was.

I've heard a couple of variations about what went on in that time period. One report said she came out into the lobby(?)looking shaken and stunned, or words to that effect. If she was off duty, why didn't someone else go?

Let's get one thing straight; I'm not saying he did or did not rape this woman. I don't have enough information to determine that.

Tawana Brawley is not the last person (I'm guessing) to make a false rape allegation in this world.

You seem to imply that you have worked in law enforcement. Then what I'm about to say probably makes sense.

Let's say that a policeman is confronted with a scenario in which Jane Doe accuses John Doe of rape. My intuition says that the policeman is going to err on the side of safety, that is he is not going to risk his hide even if it sounds like a bunch of baloney. He's not going to want to be the target of some politically correct witchhunt; he's going to arrest the guy even if her story sounds like something out of the Wizard of Oz. Does that make sense?

If she is torn up inside, that would be evidence that implies rape. If she's not torn, then Kobe's defense will use this as his primary defense, as I heard Pamela Mackey say just a few hours ago say that she would. If they come with less, I'd doubt her story, not his.

I thus question Baden, the vaginal evidence is crucial to Kobe's guilt or innocence.

Guess this whole affair just takes the wind out of the Malone, Peyton sails.

I certainly see your point but the problem is Kobe got himself into an untenable situation.

I saw a football guy on TV today and he was saying these athletes have to be proactive in staying out of this kind of trouble, in fact, they are taught to do this. He was saying these gals seem to come in under the doors...in windows etc. I know this is true so that being the case Kobe's first reaction should have been to call for help from guards or police or whatever to get out of the bad situation.

I do hope he recovers from this. His wife is being great, much greater than I would be especially at that age. I hope he has learned a lesson.

I just think the law is getting more and more unreasonable with regard to men and sexuality. Apparently, in CA now, even if a man is just about the complete the act, if the woman says "I changed my mind" he's supposed say goodbye or it's rape.

I understand your point and if this is what happen, well depending on how involved in the act they were, I would agree.

I guess the question would be .. IF this is what happened, when did she say no. was it in the begining or towards then end

If that was the case... why would he take on someone like Kobe Bryant?

I agree with your analysis. And I fit into that category also, because early reports state that she was notorious for chasing $$$. Also, why would a pretty nice thing go to a man's room at night. Kobe has no history of abuse...

and I'm a KINGs fan... Go SACRAMENTO!!!!

The man’s mission is to turn “Stop don’t” into “Don’t stop”.

I remember that back in high school.

This is a high profile case... if she was the one who lied, she'd be the one being charged, not Kobe...

...or we could suppose for a minute that Mr DA has political aspirations, and doesn't want to anger the NOW crowd. Don't tell me that because works in law enforcement, they automatically become immune to any such temptations.

Mind you again, I have no idea what the real story is, and neither do you.

I see potential motivations galore, however...........

If she was off duty, why didn't someone else go?

The reports have been sketchy, but it has sounded to me like she made an unsolicited social call. Even her friend was saying that she liked meeting famous people 'like any other kid'. I don't know what her intentions were, but 19 year old girls going to stars rooms often have less than pure ones.

As I was typing this the Hardball rerun just came on and they said she was off duty and did not bring food.

Do you think someone like Kobe would just sit idly by and tell some DA not press charges just after some silly girl just lied about him raping her?

Let me add something else.
Kobe says he's 'disgusted' with himself for cheating on his wife.

No.

He is disgusted he got caught.

If he were apologizing for what he did, he would have gone to his wife before and admitted his infidelity. He is sorry he got caught, and I guarantee this is NOT the first person he slept with outside of his marriage. I am waiting for more to come forward now.

"Fame, maybe?"

And risk losing the case? That would end his career real quick wouldn't it...

She (the victim) is either flat out lying about their being together, or Kobe has been with other women also.

And there is DNA to back up the victims claim.
