Democrats should be held accountable!
Paperjam | Fri, 18 July, 2003 | Paperjam

Posted on 07/18/2003 10:08:11 AM PDT by paperjam

The case can’t be clear enough that Saddam and Iraq as a whole were a serious threat to the entire region and an evil that had to be eradicated.

What is really upsetting is that Democrats are getting our guys in uniform KILLED! All this bitching about our President lying to the American public is high octane fuel to an unstable Iraq. In Saddam’s latest tape, he is clearly quoting our Democratic Congressmen. This quote coming from a Fox news article highlights it quite well, “The new tape thanked Iraqis for resisting the coalition’s occupation of Iraq, said the Americans and the British lied in intelligence reports to their own people and called on Iraqis to kick the Americans out of the country.”

Democrats should be held accountable for the number of Americans killed by resistance fighters encouraged by the rhetoric here at home. They (Democrats) are clearly attempting to gain political ground using the blood of our American solders who by the way are the son’s and daughters of the constituents they purport to represent! They are encouraging, almost daring a jihad be launched against out troops to embarrass our President for the “atrocity” of liberating Iraq, to call for too quick an end of our presence there before we can finish cleaning house, and to drag our troops home in what can only be defined as a defeat if we concede. They are hell bent on setting the stage for another Viet Nam and are too willing to say or do anything to ensure it happens. ONLY FOR POLITICAL GAIN!

It’s so wonderful that we have such an open society that we can publicly criticize our political officials. But, the public damage inflicted reaches so much farther than U.S. television sets. Our Democratic Presidential hopefuls have been acting like a bunch of fleas leaping to the latest stink that wafts by. They hold no regard to the fact that other countries are watching and using what’s said to wedge their own public support against us.

Like it or not we are a global society and what happens in our house affects the entire world. It’s high time that Democrats face up to the fact that their stinging criticism fuels discontent and encourages fanatical régimes to resist our efforts to improve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness throughout the world. Their complete rejection of this President makes the world so much more difficult for so many.

A perfect example of the above statement is President Bush’s recent trip to Africa. Instead of marking a milestone of achievement in support for the countries of Africa and lauding his efforts to stem the tide of a frightful disease, reduce hunger, and highlight the terrible practice of slavery which still occurs today, Democrats decided to embark on a smear campaign to erase it from the news altogether. This almost ensures that nothing of real substance will occur there and condemns Africans once again to the back burner. Even the leader of the Congressional Black Caucus rejected its significance. It doesn’t matter that the trip highlighted causes that are typically espoused by Democrats as Democratic causes. It doesn’t matter that the economies of these countries have a global impact and that fluctuations in their economies cause fluctuations around the world. And it doesn’t matter that the rest of the world will now feel less inclined to provide any assistance what so ever because our Democratic leaders are reluctant to even acknowledge those in such abject poverty. A billion dollars of our money are now at risk of going to waste because of Democratic hatred.

Our Democratic leaders have embarked on a path of total destruction for the sole purpose of political gain and have no concern or regard for any of the lives they endanger while on the offensive.

Please read the first article, and spread it around. The author confirms what the troops, the generals, the President, Conde, the families of those serving and most of the Iraqi people have been reporting daily.

Nobody wants Saddam back [Excellent]

Do you believe Freedom of Speech should be suspended in times of war?

I will use a dimocRatic technique for my answer, answering with a question. Do you believe that the military rules are the same as civilian rules? Can the soldier quit, badmouth everyone in his chain of command, demand the location and hours of his/her employment? (The answer is that there is a difference between soldiers and non soldiers.)In other words, I can talk about my work, my location, my hours etc and it does not threaten national security. See the difference?

"People are dying and you suggest we, what, vote them out a year from November?"

Works for me.

Are you the one who yelled, "Fire!" in the crowded theater? Are you the one they had to remind that loose lips sink ships?

Yes, we have Freedom of Speech, but we also have the old saying sticking feet in mouths. Yes, all the bickering and whining are endangering our troops. It's not helping their morale but is certainly giving the terrorists a huge boost. The terrorists have found the chink in our armour and with just a few sneaky attacks they can on the whole sit back and watch us do ourselves in, which the RATS and CNN are doing quite successfully. It's just proving to them we're weak.

Accountability for accuracy of fact is not exempted under first amendment rights. If distortions and inflamatory rhetoric cause American troops to get killed, then speakers should be accountable for their actions

Great post. It used to be that criticism stopped at the water's edge, but no longer.

The worst thing about the nitpicking to me is the damage to our ongoing war against people who want to destroy America. Is that the liberal's intention? Make it harder to find support overseas and at home when we must take action against North Korea or Iraq?

They have a lot of answering to do. Former Mayor Koch said it himself, "The Democratic candidates for President -- and many in the media -- are trying to make President Bush seem like a liar. In so doing, they are making an unforgivable mistake."

I haven't posted in quite some time and apologize if I have this in the wrong place. As an active duty military member, I felt compelled to get this off my chest - I agree, I don't live in your country but I thank you for you military service - what you do keeps us in other parts of the world free - I think it's a pity that not enough Americans understand that the enemy is at home and that enemy is the DNC.

Interesting. During World War One propaganda and Sedition committees were setup that arrested and threw people in jail for saying truths like our troops were not being supplied well, that conditions in training camps were squalid and caused death to disease, that the Germans were winning the war and were better trained soldiers. The fact is that a lot of American troops most likely don't want to be Iraq that are there now. This rhetoric about the Dems being near traitors for just raising questions about the reasons for this war is noxious and ironically anti American and against the very goal of setting up democracy in Iraq.

I think you're right. Another Freeper (sorry, I don't remember who it was) pointed out yesterday that Saddam virtually quoted the Dems in his latest taped speech. The Dems should be called to account for this.

This is tremendous news - and I will be all over the news media about it.

Ann Coulter was right! The democrats are giving aid and comfort to the enemy - just like Ann said - they are committing treason!!

And if what the dems are saying is true? On how many accounts should Bush be called for? The people fighting against us in Iraq are hardly motivated by what Democrats in America say. Edmund Burke, the father of conservatism, was supremely critical of both the reasons the Crown gave for going to war against her American colonies and then the methods it chose. He was called a traitor by half wits and morons for 20 years until everything he had ever said was proven correct. Dissent in wartime keeps leaders honest and is essential. Whatever aid it gives to the enemy, if any, if less than total silence and the suppression of such views (Soviet Union is good example).

Well, for one thing, it's not true, and they've been able to offer no evidence that it is. That doesn't matter, because Dems operate by innuendo.

Furthermore, uranium was not the only reason we went to war against Iraq, a country which was widely known, even under your hero, Clinton, to have been a supporter, coordinator and funder of terrorism.

Geez, talk about half-wits - Burke must have presciently known about those who would eventually take his name in vain.

I haven't even addressed the truthfulness or lack of it in what the Dems said. I am merely defending their right to dissent in time of war and not be labled traitors. Plenty of conservatives and many on this site were totally disgusted by Clinton and his Kosovo war and said so while it was being waged.

Freedom of speech requires responsibility for what you say - Freedom of speech does not say YOU CAN SAY ANY DAMN THING YOU WANT ANYTIME - if that were true, why can't you yell FIRE in a crowded room ..?? Because it would cause a panic!

Soooo ... being responsible says you will not yell fire in a crowded theater.

However, TREASONOUS speech - is that which gives aid and comfort to YOUR ENEMY. If Saddam is quoting what the democratss are saying - they have committed treason - again!!!!! And ... they have proven Ann Coulter right one more time.

"They have the right to be heard"

NO NO NO NO NO THEY DON'T!!!

Don't confuse "free speech" with "having a right to be heard" - they are 2 different things. Nobody has a RIGHT to be heard. That means you believe people have the RIGHT to force you to hear them. That's just not true.

IF I stand on the street corner and exercise my free speech, NO ONE IS REQUIRED TO LISTEN!! But I'm still exercising my free speech.

However, my free speech is not hurting anyone and people are not getting killed because of my free speech.

Freedom of speech of course should not be suspended. However, flat out lies, demoralizing our troops and administration for political gain thereby giving aid and comfort to the enemy is against the law. The framers most likely didn't ever once suspect elected officials and the press would put their thirst for power above the good of the nation. And neither did I!
