Board Had Right to Fire Teacher Who Advocated Sex With Boys

The Board of Education did not violate the rights of a school teacher when it fired him after a public outcry over his membership in the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), which advocates the abolition of laws banning sex between men and underage boys, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled yesterday. The unanimous ruling affirmed a 2002 decision by Eastern District Judge Frederic Block. Writing for the appeals court, Judge Richard J. Cardamone said the former Bronx Science teacher, Peter Melzer, was free to associate with NAMBLA, but that freedom was outweighed by the disruption his association caused at the school. When Mr. Melzer's affiliation became know, parents threatened to remove their children from school and staged protests. Mr. Melzer was fired and later sued to win back his job. Mr. Melzer, a NAMBLA member since 1980, has never been accused of misconduct with an underage boy.

Based on the SC ruling, this is wrong. What the teacher does privately should not be intruded upon by the govt'.

Is the case where the bozos from the ACLU were representing NAMBLA?

"What the teacher does privately should not be intruded upon by the govt'."Under most circumstances, I would agree with you. I myself, am a high school teacher and I have seen many peers vilified for out of school conduct which, while not illegal, was considered immoral and which I thought to be innocous. Like going to a "swingers Club" with a wife, or other things of that nature.
BUT this NAMBLA thing is different. Just because he hasn't ever been accused of official misconduct, doesn't mean he hasn't done it. NAMBLA is a predatory organization composed of predatory pedophiles. They actively support and act as conduits for this atrocious behavior by suggesting means of remaining covert while continuing to prey upon the youngest and most helpless of our citizens. That such a person is not only a member of this group, but who obviously feels secure enough in his membership to publicly support their goals.....all the while placing himself in immediate proximity to our children is enough to send chills down my spine!

I just don't understand how there can even be an organization like NAMBLA. Why is such a thing tolerated?

I'll refrain from stating what I think should be done to every NAMBLA member.

To me - it's like reading about a crime being committed in a, "known crack house". If it's known to be a crack house then why not arrest everyone inside? If the organization is known to support pedophilia - then why not close it down?

It's pretty sad commentary that this is even considered newsworthy.

Too bad we can't be sure that every school district in the country and every organization that works with youth can't have a Photo of this, this, this . . . . disgusting waste of DNA!

To me - it's like reading about a crime being committed in a, "known crack house". If it's known to be a crack house then why not arrest everyone inside? Apparently the police can only arrest people when they have specific evidence of an actual crime being committed. I reported some obvious drug activity in a neighborhood where a close relative lives. There were people coming on foot to buy drugs a certain apartment every few minutes at all hours. But the police did nothing. I imagine this was because:
1. The actual sales were taking place indoors, making it difficult for them to observe a crime.
2. There were many other places where drugs were being sold.

"Well it's a shame the Supreme Court doesn't agree with you isn't it?"That's not the only subject on which this High Court doesn't agree with me. I can't believe that there are those who actually think a 2nd Amendment on point specific challenge will "fly" with this liberal court! Just wait...a few more Scalia's on this court and their views may radically change on this and other subjects. I can wait.

Homosexuality:
Homosexuality is deviant sexual behavior and a mental illness.
Homosexuals: 1) subject their body parts to uses nature did not intend, such activities often presenting immediate risk to the participants; 2) are prone to greater suicide, depression and other mental disorders and deficiencies than the heterosexual population at large; 3) are prone to far greater sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, than the (normal) heterosexual population; 4) molest young people (pedophilia) at a far greater rate than heterosexuals; 5) engage in degrading sexual promiscuity, oftentimes engaging in risky sex with many partners during the same event; 6) are engaged in aggressive and widespread efforts to indoctrinate our children by introducing the homosexual lifestyle using public schools as the primary indoctrination vehicle and likewise, through the movie/music/TV industry, with the dual goals of gaining school-age acceptance of homosexuality and encouraging sexual activity among children, especially same-sex experimentation; 7) view most everything through a mindset heavily biased in favor of the homosexual lifestyle and culture, which renders them mostly useless when asked to opine on matters that normal heterosexuals better resolve.
The mental deficiencies described herein applying to homosexuals shall not be confused with the deficiencies associated with the left wing democrat/socialist/marxist/ feminist/environmentalist minds, etc., which have their own distinct set of mental disorders.
This doesn't even touch on what the Bible has to say about homosexuality.

Is there some way he could take it to the Supreme Court now? They could always give this misunderstood fella his job back.

A close-up of Peter Melzer contemplating his fate after he was suspended as a teacher at Bronx High School for Science due to his being exposed on WNBC-TV as a NAMBLA member and for exposing sex with young boys.
Additional NAMBLA members here.

BUT this NAMBLA thing is differentIts not different. Privacy is privacy. If the government is not able to invade the privacy of gays then its not able to invade the privacy of nambla members. Either we have a right to privacy or we don't.
