Has anyone noticed Democratic candidates and congressman with American Flag lapel pins???
Personal Observation

In the last 12 hours I saw Democratic Congressman Jay Inslee on Hannity & Colmes and Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry on The Today Show both wearing American flag lapel pins.
It is common to see President Bush and senior adminstration members wearing these lapel pins since 9/11. I am curious to know if the DNC placed a directive to all party members that a lapel pin will help shore up there image of being soft on patriotism and national security.
Has anyone else made this observation???

I never wear a flag pin because it is disrespectful to wear the flag as a clothing. I have no idea why conservatives do it.

Pin or patch is acceptable. Halter top, shorts, T Shirts made of flag are distasteful in practice but usually well intentioned.

Speaking of pins, can anyone remember a posting regarding a gold eagle perched on a pearl? If I remember correctly, the dembot broads were trying to make it appear as their "trademark" jewelry...I was unsuccessful in searches on this. Anyone?

Their supply of hammer and sickle pins dried up after the fall of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall.

Albright has among her favorite pins a bejeweled U.S. flag and a gold eagle perched on a pearl a pin that became a popular accessory with a number of Washington women, including Hillary Rodham Clinton and Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala. The images don't show, though. Source

I wore a U.S. Flag patch on my U.S. Coast Guard work uniform, as ordered.

Unless you have a link I'll have to dig it up. But when they were written burning the flag was a no no too. I find pins and patchs to be fine. I don't like flag clothing.

Sec. 175. Position and manner of display
[Title 36 - Patriotic Societies and Observances
Chapter 10 - Patriotic Customs = 36 USC Sec. 175]
Sec. 176. Respect for flag
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

I think they were responding to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center. I posted it as a thread that nobody read. (Like hosting a party and having no one show up. sniff)
Americans want facts and flags
Here are a couple of pertinent paragraphs:
The American public may want its coverage of the war on terror straight down the middle, but it wants it delivered by people who share its patriotism.
That's the finding of a new Pew Research Center survey of 1,200 Americans and their media habits and views. It comes amid an ongoing debate within journalism circles about whether embedded reporters, flag logos on TV screens, and the undiscovered weapons of mass destruction in Iraq suggest American news organizations were too jingoistic or complacent in their coverage of the war against Saddam Hussein.
Pew Research Center director Andrew Kohut believes the poll shows citizens want objective news, but want to feel in sync with those gathering and presenting it. ''They don't want propaganda,'' he says, ''but they want the media to be on our side, so to speak, giving you the sense that they have your values, your interests.''
The Dims, naturally, seized upon the portion in bold because it appeals to their cloak-the-truth campaign style, while ignoring the italicized portion since it's their instinctual nature to propagandize.

Thanks for the article and replies.
The best I remember, in the FR posting, it was suggested that conservatives take "ownership" of the pin and not let it become the dem women's accessory trademark!
I know you are wondering why I want to know...ha ha. I just bought one and am wearing it on my jackets at work!
I tell anyone that asks, it is my support of our President and his party!
