Urgent Prayer and Help Request for MistyCA's Hospitalized Vietnam Veteran Brother
MistyCA
Posted on 07/15/2003 6:55:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson
Here is the request from MistyCA:
I need help. My brother is in the hospital in Santa Barbara. He is dying. He has 10% heart capacity left after having (since Vietnam) three surgeries to replace infected valves and a resection to remove diseased tissue. The most recent surgery was done in Palo Alto by Dr. Burdin two years ago. He has chronic infections and needed a transplant but the VA denied the transplant.
Now he is sitting in the hospital in Santa Barbara waiting for the VA to get off their butt and get him in a VA facitility so he can get the care he needs. Here is his story in his own words.... dang...I can't remember how to make a link.. http://members.cox.net/jkk/vet.htm
This vet needs some freeper noise and help. Is there anything anyone can do here to get someone to move the VA to help him? Please. :( Can someone help me do a thread for my brother?

VA hospitals have become a disgrace; they serve as employers of last resort for people with no interest in working and underserve every area where they are located; only the outpatient clinics are of any help.
It is easier to die in a VA hospital than it is to find someone to help you with the door.
To: MistyCA
I'm praying that the VA helps your brother, as they should, and that he recovers his health. Our vets are not given the treatment they should be given for all of their sacrifices. He and you are in my prayers. God Bless.

Thank you. My brother is the sort of guy who does everything for himself and doesn't ask for help. I remember one day he asked me to drive him to the hospital several years back. I didn't realize he was in V-tac and you can imagine how shocked I was when he walked himself into the hospital and they immediately put the paddles on him to convert him to normal rhythm. He would get on his motorcycle and drive himself to the hospital in West LA from Bakersfield in heart failure rather than ask anyone for help. The docs never understood how it was that he managed to keep going. Even at 10% function he is still trying to take care of this himself. All of your prayers power him, I am sure of it.

Heavenly Father,
We lift up to You this brother---a man who has fought for his country and who has asked for very little in return. We commit him to You, Lord, for You know every detail of his life and You understand exactly what he needs right now. Please send healing on the wings of Your Spirit to him. Rally the help that he needs and give him doctors who are filled with Your wisdom and understanding. Grant Misty tremendous perseverance as she seeks treatment for him. Father, let those who are able to assist be stirred to jump to this man's aid. We know that You are in control of this whole situation, Lord. We trust in You to provide all that Misty and her brother need. Thank You, Father, for Your amazing grace and Your faithfulness to respond to these prayers. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

He sounds like an amazing man with a lot of determination. His story makes me angry. I have a brother who is a Viet Nam veteran and I can't imagine how I'd feel if he'd been treated this way. I'll continue to pray for both of you. Hang in there, girl!

Sorry to hear of your brothers health problems. Prayers for him and your family.

Thanks, Jen. We have tried to contact Lois Capps. I sure do wish Lagomarsino hadn't been put out by the Huffingtons! I remember the days when a simple phone call got immediate action. Those were the days.
We have friends at the Newspress. I will contact them. My brother is very, very active with the VVA and he is the VVA chapter 218 Veteran's Coordinating Council Representative. As much as he does for them, I hope they don't fail him now.

Have prayed. Will pray.
May God's peace that passes understanding be his and yours.
May he be whole in body, mind and spirit.
May his intimacy with God and those who love him increase dramatically.
I have no inroads with the VA.
God Almighty outranks the VA and has committed to work all things together for good for those who Love Him etc.
But the angst and pain in the process can sometimes be extensive.
I don't have a lot of answers to a lot of questions. But I know Father is Altogether Good and Altogether Loving and that He Loves your brother more than you know how to.
Wish I could put some legs to my prayers for your brother. But I have and will pray.
