[history]
Is the ghost of Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder out for revenge? One might think so given the brouhaha over Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker's recent observation that "blacks and Latins take the heat better than most whites."
In 1998, Snyder, a bookie turned football commentator, was asked why blacks had risen to such prominence in sports. Snyder opined that blacks could naturally "jump higher and run faster" because of their "high thighs and big size." All hell broke loose. The NAACP called for Snyder's scalp. A few days later CBS handed it over.

But the cure for double standards is not to compound them by sacrificing yet another innocent to ideological correctness. I'll go along with that. It's silly sometimes how we get caught up in the "Well, they did/said it" game. But having said that, I understand why people like to turn the tables on their tormentors as well.

No I disagree. Hannity's mistake was calling for Dusty to apologize. But he's prefectly correct in pointing out that there is a double standard. That blacks can use the word "racist" and talk about "real black" men and women on a daily basis; that they can get away with saying just about anything. A white person uses a word that sounds similar to the offensive-yet rap-hip "nigger" like say "
niggardly".
Until black people can be called racist for saying racist things (things a white person would be called racist for saying) then there is no equality between the two races and our country will remain forever divided.
Once black people can be held in account for their words or white people not held in account (either way) then the next generation of black children will not be as racist as their parents. Unfortunately I think the last vestigaes of racism are in the black community. I never grew up around anyone white that was racist.

And it is that type of thinking that got The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the most racially progressive book in the history of the English language (or ANY language, for that matter), banned from our public shools. For Christ's sake the central premise of the book is that it is not ok to be a racist, even if the law requires you to do so, but drop a couple of "N-bombs" and confused liberals start crying foul.

Of course -- it was written by a -- come closer... "white"... guy. Now if he had some really dope lyrics about ho's and rape then it would have been deemed "art"..

If Grady Little said Latin ball players don't like to come to Boston because they don't play as well in the cold, what would have happened?
BTW, Pedro Martinez in the dugout during a cold and rainy May home stand looked like a case of hypothermia.

People who know nothing about science should not pretend that they do, as this writer does.

And what did this writer say that was scientifically inaccurate?

Mr. Hannity's obsession to even the score prompted him to bizarrely proclaim that Mr. Baker should apologize for his "silly remarks." But the cure for double standards is not to compound them by sacrificing yet another innocent to ideological correctness. And some wonder WHY I refuse to listen to Hannity!

People who know nothing about science should not pretend that they do, as this writer does. The author is a respected social anthropoligist. His best-seller "Taboo" dealt extensively with the particular subject of black athletic dominance. There can hardly BE a person more qualified to comment on this controversey.

"The single most important factor in heat toleration is body proportions," says David Brown, a University of Hawaii anthropologist and morphology expert. "If the relative fitness levels are similar, those with more skin surface area to overall body mass -- those with relatively longer limbs -- are more heat efficient. It's easier to sweat, dissipate heat and keep core body temperature steady."I'm confused. I thought heat tolerance had more to do with thyroid hormones than anything else.
If I follow this, then would it not mean that Swedes would be more heat tolerant than a Neoplotian?
We Yankee munchkins in Texas would really like to know the secret of heat tolerance.

When you completely leave out the heat absorbtion side of the equation and only discuss heat dissipation, then I question his motivation and the science. The fact is, Baker is making racist statements and the left cannot rush fast enought to defend him. Question: If you sit in a black pickup truck and your wife sits in a white volkswagon, both parked in the sun, who gets hotter faster? Does this author explore the issue of race by analyzing the number of heat stroke deaths amongst atheletes over the last 20 years? No. About 2 to 3 athletes a year die from this. The last guy I remember was a black lineman for the Minnesota Vikings in last years training camp. Why didn't his longer arms/more surface area dissipate the heat superior to the smaller white lineman he played next to?
Do black coated surfaces absorb more heat than white coated surfaces? This article is nothing more than an attempt to excuse the bigotry of a black coach. If a white coach says "I like to play white guys on hot days because they are better at reflecting the suns rays and thus absorb less heat from the sun", he'd be fired before we read the story on FreeRepublic. Do you also question this hypothesis?
