[history]
Revisionist history. That's the kindest description you can give columnist Ann Coulter's attempt to portray Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy as an American hero.
But it's more accurate to call it a lie. A damnable one, at that.
But there it is, in black and white. In her columns and in her new book, Treason.

"McCarthyism never has referred to anti-communism. McCarthyism means making reckless accusations and public smears without real evidence." There THEY go again.....redefining things to meet their needs.....LOL....with their definition, then, I guess you'd have to call the NEW YORK Times, McCarthyism.

My policy when it comes to Coulter is "no comment."

"He won the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery. But it wasn't McCarthy. It was George McGovern."
One does not "win" a DFC; it is awarded for heroism in flight under combat conditions.

there has never been a dispute that McCarthy was absolutly correct in his accusations of communists.
They were commies and they were pegged.
The left would not be so vocal if it was a marsha clark or elenor roservelt INEFFECTIVLY fighting commies.
The revisionism was done by the hollyweird and the commies themselves.
Given the socialist and commies STILL infesting the state department, McCarthy is still right.

What fool wrote this article?
If McCarthy had five brothers,
one who fought against pornography,
one who fought against the murder-babies-for-money-industry,
one who fought against big government,
one who fought for our absolute right to bear arms,
and one to fight for more true and factual and unrelenting press coverage...
America wouldn't be such a disgusting land of amnesiac, fat, lazy, dumb, sissified sheeple.
To: hsmomx3
Just a regurgitation of the liberal propaganda about McCarthy. They definitely didn't read the book.

Apparently these writers have never heard of the Venona Project. Joe was 100% correct. To bad he became an alcoholic.

"She characterizes dissent and disagreement as treason." There THEY go again, again. Redefining a whole book to meet their needs - what gall.
Ann defines doing actions that destroy and weaken this country and helps and aids it's enemys as treason. But the liberals must try to redefine it and hope that people that don't know will just nod their heads and go along.

They can't deal with the fact that McCarthy was correct. They had to engage in character assassination to draw the focus off of what the senator was saying. They did a similar thing to Goldwater and then Nixon. It is their stock in trade.

Does this mean it will not be called "The McCarthy Era" now?
Notice almost all small town reviewers of Treason rely on Rabinowitz and Horowitz, who I doubt read the book, for their critique. The least they could do for their salary is write their own review.
Just sent Tim Cuprisin an email (tcuprisin@journalsentinel.com) suggesting he read this thread before he takes Horowitz and Rabinowitz word for anything as gospel.

McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover, Richard Nixon and others I haven't read the book but when I've seen her discuss it, she mentions five names. So why mention those three while referring to the fourth and fifth as "others?" Why not just use their names, Whittaker Chambers and Ronald Reagn?
McCarthyism means making reckless accusations and public smears without real evidence.
Like what the left did to Chambers? Like how the left still covers up for Hiss despite Verona?
McCarthy was right. Thank you, Ann.

"There have been several genuine war heroes in the U.S. Senate." What does that have to do with being a pro-communist force in this country or helping and promoting Communist spies in this country?
More than one person caught up in a war has fought well, but later after the war has turned against his country - John F Kerry comes to mind.

The KGB's release of secret files published in the Venona Files proves essentially what Ann reports in TREASON. She backs up all facts with 46 pages of notes. The leftists are going to have a hard time disproving her facts.

There were plenty of implacable anti-communists among Democrats of the era: Scoop Jackson, Hubert Humphrey and , to name three contemporaries. That would be the same John Kennedy who defended McCarthy, and whose brother Robert made Tailgunner Joe godfather to his kid.
McCarthyism never has referred to anti-communism. McCarthyism means making reckless accusations and public smears without real evidence.
Precisely what Ann debunks, and the writer of this editorial engages in.

McGovern more than deserved a DFC, and probably got one. He flew B-24's out of Italy.
