To some people, the repair would be cash reparations to black people. And there it is.
Derrick, here's my apology. I am truly sorry your ancestors were brought to this country.

Derrick, here's my apology. I am truly sorry your ancestors were brought to this country. I'm sure if our ancestors could have seen into the future they would have chosen to pick their own damn cotton.

Crap like this insults every African-American who's "made it" in America.

The Jews say of the holocaust: "Never forget". They are right, because Jews still face hatred and violence. The holocaust could return and so we must all remember the past, so that we do not repeat it.
The blacks say of slavery: "Never forget". But they know slavery will not return in America. They know that blacks in America are better off than blacks anywhere else in the world. They know they receive preferences over whites and other minorities. Why do these blacks say "never forget"? Because they're hoping to cash in on the issue. It's not about ending suffering, or preventing future suffering. It's just a con game.

Well Mr. Jackson, are you responsible for your fathers sin, much less your fathers, fathers, fathers sin? If so lets look at your blood line for all of history and see if there are any debts due
Perhaps when your relatives die you should inherit their financial debts as well
It only follows your reasoning
Take note that you didnt free yourself from slavery. It was other whites that lived in this very country that fought and died for your freedom.
Perhaps there is a debt there you owe as well.
You sir, are a fool.

He'll have to wait for his turn.
First, I have to get an apology and a reparations check from the Italian government to atone for the Romans who enslaved my Anglo-Saxon ancestors.

What is this guy talking about? How many times must apologies be given? Frankly, I don't think anyone today should apologize for what someone did a couple of hundred years ago. Kind of pointless.

When are they going to apologise for RAP music???

An apology would be the start of a new America. No, it wouldn't. Apologies HAVE been made, over and over again. Who should make them? Will the Africans who herded their own people into slavery make them? To whom? To present-day Americans who have fared far better than Africans because their ancestors did have to make that horrible journey? Look at Liberians, whose ancestors left America and colonized their country. They STILL look on America as their protector, their symbol of freedom. Think any of those people wish their ancestors had stayed put on our shores?
What DOES make a difference is making just laws today and taking every step to insure a just and equal America. I personally think that means insuring equal access for all Americans to the justice system and keeping a free-market system open to all, among other things.

I refuse to apologize for something I didn't do.
If my ancestors owned any slaves, which research indicates they did not (being poor-as-dirt Irishmen), it's up to them to apologize to those they harmed.

I agree--George W. Bush should apologize to every slave he has ever owned.

To Black Racists like Derrick Z. Jackson, I say bloody well bugger off. Its a tragedy his people were sold into slavery and brought here but I'm damned well not going to apologize for something I had no part in nor should President Bush on behalf of white Americans alive today. An apology is the least of what Black Racists want. They want to keep the division between the races alive forever. After all they profit from the permanent prolongation of ancient grievances. Screw 'em.

An apology for the past means asking white Americans to take responsibility for the present. That's pretty racist, right there.
