This so called teacher should be dismissed immediately and preferably locked up as well. Threatening the president's life and inciting others to do so is NOT part of "free speech".

The fact that this "teacher" is still there discloses the political persuasions of the college administration.

He had best be arrested, tried, convicted, and tossed in with "Bubba" to keep him happy.

It pays to do a search for earlier threads.

These college administrations have created the employees and teachers we have in the school system and now the mandatory exit exam that Cal students were supposed to pass in 2004 to get a high school diploma has now been bumped to 2006 because the seniors cannot pass the exit exam. What a wonderful slippery downward spiral this entire state is on and alot of it is leaking over to the other states. The teachers union has created this mess and one day they will have to answer for it, but probably not in my lifetime.

...instill a sense of fear so they would have a better sense of why more people don't participate in the political process

The teacher is a moron with a political axe to grind. (surprise, surprise - he's from California) If he we wanted a more realistic simulation for this, he should have given an optional assignment (or one that counts for 1/100,000,000th of their grade, as in one vote out of one hundered million) to instill a sense of laziness so they would have a better sense of why more people don't participate in the political process.

My curiosity of what secular colleges are teaching our kids has now been answered. It all makes sense now.

The tests here on the east weren't passable by the seniors either. So they were deemed flawed http://1010wins.com/siteSearch/winstopstories_story_175113446.html

Michael Ballou, a part-time lecturer who teaches an "Introduction to U.S. Government" course at the college's Petaluma campus, intended the assignment to be an "experiential exercise that would instill a sense of fear so they would have a better sense of why more people don't participate in the political process," said Doug Garrison, the vice president and executive dean of the Petaluma campus.

Whaaaat?

It doesn't make a bit of sense to me, either.

Instill a sense of fear in whom? The recipient, or the poor schmuck of a student who's going to have to have a chat with the Secret Service?

Either way, how would it shed any light on why more people don't participate in the political process?

I'm looking forward to a fuller statement (and from the teacher this time), but I suspect it's going to be one of those explanations. You know, the kind that only makes sense to a mentally-ill ideologue...

The idiot teachers spews nonsense, then grades his students on their ability to understand nonsense. If his nonsense makes sense to a few, they have what is called uncommon sense, as opposed to those who don't think he makes sense, which is most of us, which clearly means they have common sense. Those that have no common sense thus get an A, as do those with no sense at all, who are considered uncommon sense-impaired and thus must be advanced so as to avoid discriminating against them and violating some obscure affirmative action rule. Those with common sense are of course average, and get a C. Since this is a liberal teacher, no one gets flunked as that would damage their very sensitive sense of self-esteem.

Why are you like that,

Like *what*?? He politely pointed out that there was already a thread on this topic, provided a link to it, and reminded people to do searches for existing threads before they post. I can't see how he could possibly have been more courteous about it.

Instill a sense of fear in whom?

It would seem, in the student.
Lesson, be afraid of conservative government.
This teacher has no business teaching.
One wonders if he did this during previous administrations.
I rather doubt it.

Oooo, am I ever in trouble. I tell people to knock off the needless excerpting of non-WP/LA Times articles all the time, and I'm used to getting whines from the "let me post the way I want, it's too much trouble to learn to do it right" crowd.

But now there's the dreadful possibility that I might actually get a freepmail from noutopia telling me what he really thinks about me. I may have to rethink my nasty repressive tactics. ;D
